Short Sweep Electric or Full Sweep Electric Oil Pressure Gauge?

I need to buy an Oil Pressure Gauge, but I'm not sure which is better and why. The short sweep costs tons less then the full sweep. Why is that?

i have had a 180 sweep autometer for about 1 year. it works fine. i have seen no real use for it other then the time i broke my oil filter on the highway and watched my pressure drop

. buy an electric one for the best price. i really dont think 180 or 360 matters

Because the market will pay it. Oil pressure gauges need two readings: "Enough" and "None". Being able to see how much the pressure at the pump outlet varies will mostly worry you.

The only difference other than degree of sweep, is price (about $120 difference).

Some people perfer electric over mechanical and they also want full sweep over the short sweep. If you're picky, you must pay the price.

I personally would rather pay $35 for a full sweep mechanical gauge over paying or settling for either of the electric gauges...... But that's just my opinion.

Regarding the two electric gauges, they exist for preference only. They full both function equally. If you don't have a personal sweep preference, then go with the short sweep because it's an obvious money saver.

It can be. I'm not going to get in depth on the subject because I don't want to drift from the thread subject, but with mechanical gauges, it all depends on how you hook them up. The cheap nylon tubing has a high propensity to leak, whereas, stainless braided hose and AN fittings (basically long brake hose) will ensure a good seal in the cabin.

To be fair, running flammable liquids through the cabin isn't exactly the *best* way to do it, however its the way i'll be doing it.

Oil is far FAR less hazardous than fuel however, and thats why most people frown on interior mechanica fuel pressure gauges.

I actually need to check the NASA, and SCCA rules on mechanical oil pressure gauges...
