The third annual Mitsubishi vs. Subaru showdown is this weekend (Sunday, June 24th) held in Norwalk, OH. The event is put on by Buschur Racing and should be a fun time. More information and rules can be found here:

If I don't run into any serious problems before the event I should be racing. Who else is coming? I'm looking forward to seeing some of you guys out there. So come on down.

Well, I had a great time this past weekend. There was a decent turnout at the track and time trials went on all day long between qualifying for the quick 8 classes. Results from the event can be found here:

I ended up taking 3rd place in the bracket class. I should have won this round too, but I made a silly mistake on the top end and basically eliminated myself by running so far from my dial in.

My best pass for the day was 12.83 @107 mph with a 1.7 sixty foot.

During some of my runs the car would start to break up under high boost, after the race day I had some time to diagnose the problem and found that I had blown my intake manifold gasket during one of my passes. Glad the car made it through to the end.

All in all it was a fun day that turned me into a crispy skinned dude. I am happy with where I placed, knowing I can do better. I look forward to doing it again next year and I will see you guys at the shootout in less than 2 months.

Here are some pics. Enjoy. If anyone else wants to share some of their stories from the weekend feel free.

That race between kevin and the black evo was sweet.

I bigtime screwed up staging that run. I left the line at only a couple psi boost and a high 1.6 60' time. When I went to get the car on the converter, it jumped forward a little bit on me and I accidentally fully staged. I knew the car was going to bog badly and I needed a good light. I think I cut a mid 0.1x light and then ran a 10.2 to the black EVO's 10.4.

The better race was the final. AMS didn't pass me until the 1000' mark.

Cool!

I sure wish I could have made it, but couldn't get the car running. Ever since it rolled over 100k miles in January, something breaks every single time I drive it (and we're not talking minor things either)! Was hoping I could make this event since I made the first 2, but it wasn't to be.

Maybe I'll make the DSM SO, but I dunno. May not be able to afford it! Car is broken yet again and I'm nearing $4000 worth of repairs since January already (and have only been able to drive a grand total of about 250miles)... :-(

Anyways, hope to see some of you guys there if I can make it!

Nearly $4k?! I didn't realize it was that much. No offence Brian but maybe you're taking it to the wrong place...

I'm afraid that it's actually a reasonable price for having someone else do most of the labor... At this point it's almost a completely different car. It's been in 3 different shops recently for various repairs (having been towed 3 times). Same body, wheels, and engine block, but pretty much everything electrical on it has failed and been replaced in the last few months. Almost every sensor, accessory items, fuel control (didn't fail, but since we were replacing everything else I decided to reconfigure the car for less hp, but better driveability.), etc... It's getting better, but it's now throwing yet another P0300 Random multi-cylinder misfire, and my clutch master cylinder has now sprung a leak. I've just decided to write off the whole season. There might be time left to get the car running for a couple events, but I sure won't have the money for them. Sometime when I have nothing to do for an hour or so, maybe I'll type up the multi-page list of all the components that have suddenly failed on me since January...

I'd probably save a lot of money if I just junked this thing at this point and bought something else, but I just can't bring myself to do it. I keep thinking "this has GOT to be the last repair item it needs to get it back on the road..."

Well I guess on the plus side it's like you're driving a brand new car. I didn't realize that you were having all those electrical issues as well. You're dedicated at least so i'm sure your luck will change.

Kevin, would you mind pming me your launching technique? I am trying to get this thing to do a nice hard launch. Just going by the VFaq and what I have read... it just bogs to much. Even hitting 10psi, it bogs down real bad.

Thanks for any tips,
Jake
