What to install when putting in head

Hey I am in the middle of getting a different head since i bent my valves, and I have a list of things to get that will go in when I install the head. I was wondering if I am missing anything.

So far I have these items added to my cart

Cometic complete top end engine gasket set...
includes
- Valve Cover Set
- Intake Manifold Set
- Exhaust Manifold Set
- Cam Seal Set
- Water Outlet Gasket
- Intake/Exhaust Valve Stem Seal

Mitsubishi OEM organic head gasket
ARP head studs
OEM water pump
Power Enterprise timing belt
BS Elim kit

And at the moment I am looking around for a head to buy. So let me know if I am missing anything or something doesnt seem right. And also to add when i was on MAP, It said ARP head studs and a Mitsubishi oem organic head gasket dont work together and that i have to buy a mls gasket but I am not getting the head or block resurfaced.

Since your giong through the work, you could always make your car reliable. You can replace your water pump, belts , pullies, and stock bolts. Thats what I did.

Are you looking to buy a rebuilt head?

ARP headstuds will work fine with the Mitsu or Felpro composite head gasket especially since you're not getting the block refinished/resurfaced.

And go to partsdinosaur's website and purchase the full timing kit with everything included (belts, tensioner, pullies etc.)

Not true at all. That combo will be just fine for you.



This is a 7-bolt engine, right? How old are the timing tensioner pulley, idler pulley, and auto tensioner?

Ditch the Cometic and go with OEM, I think it's only like $150ish?
Why not just rebuild your current head? I'm not sure how much rebuilt heads are going for but they always have that "stage 1" crap and so forth.
If you rebuild it, you'll know what it's in it and what it's capable of, that's what I did.

I dont remember how much it was but i think it was for a 6 bolt so im not going to buy it.

I am going to buy a gates instead.

And its a 7 bolt, just hit 100,000 but i planned on buying a complete timing belt kit which includes all the pulleys and tensioners along with a belt.

Yes I have used this same kit for 6 bolts and 7 bolts and will continue to use these as I can get the online discount which makes dsm life a little cheaper every little bit helps. I gave up changing my stats and current car as I have had 11 dsms so far this year I buy them broke fix and sell them or part them out when they are to far gone and alsmost every one has that kit on them now

I think every dsmer should know about the online discount its the little gaskets and stuff at 20 bucks a whack that kill you when owning a dsm. This just makes life easier when you can order it online and almost get the second part for the same price you would have in the store for the one. Its like a buy one part get one part for free almost. Glad to see someone else abusing the advance auto website. Did you know that you can get more of a discount online then even the employees get? WTF thats just wrong in my opinion and most of them dont even know

Ok, I been waiting on everything to be shipped to my house, I had a couple more questions. First, Is there anything i can use to clean the gasket off the block, someone already suggested nail polish remover. Also is it hard to remove the balance shaft?

And to add, Im also going to make a thread in the classifieds but I cracked my vc and Im looking for one, a 7bolt so if you know anyone or you guys have one i am willing to buy now.

Use a brand new razor blade. It's always worked great for me.

Also is it hard to remove the balance shaft?

The process isn't difficult, but it is far easier with the block sitting on an engine stand, as apposed to being in the engine bay.

Well My block is still in the car and its starting to get cold here in minnesota so should i wait to put in a bs eliminator kit which could end up being a bad decision but Im in a tight spot and my car being outside and all

I would just wait im still running a balance shaft. Just make sure to change the belt and idler pulley. I also have a 2g valve cover if you need it. Its a 2g no cracks but it is dirty. Came off the head I just sold you should have said something sooner

For a fast bs elimination just take the bs belt off. You can leave everything as it is

Yeah I would replace it but when i was going to buy the bs kit, it was out of stock from parts dinosaur. but the kit came with the bs belt and all the pulleys and what not so i will just wait

What's bad about it? Im on diesel oil so oil pressure is great. And he is in the cold so 10-30 will be similar viscosity.

It can be done, read the link that Paul listed from the VFAQ's. Its been done to retain oil pressure. I just did this to my block(removed shafts,installed kit) which is out of the car and it was a PITA to knock out and reinstall the block offs, so leaving the shafts in is an option.
