I was curious as to how the plating affects braking. I know that the zinc is there for corosion purposes, but does the zinc eventually wear off where the pads rub? Also, if it does eventually wear off, are the brakes "squishy" or anything until the plating's gone.

Thanks guys.

IIRC, the zinc coating will only stay on the non-braking surfaces of the rotors, so the wheel hub area, etc will remain shiny and such.

I understand that the non-braking areas will stay plated, but until the zinc is worn off of the initial braking surface of the rotor, do the brakes react any differently than non plated rotors? With the heat that would be generated when stopping, does the plating impede braking ability until it's worn off?

For about a milisecond, until it's gone.

The coating doesn't last very long on the braking surface and you will not notice a difference.
