I was comparing the rear STB on my Mirage to see how hard it would be to modify it to fit my Eclipse. They're fairly close, however the Mirage bar is a bit too wide for the Eclipse. I decided to buy a cheapo bar off of ebay and see how hard it was to fit. It was something like $13.99+$15s/h.
The end pieces are the only parts that need to be modded, at least that was the case with the bar I purchased. You need to trim off the ends that bolt to the bar (I made a red line about where I cut mine). Then you need to redrill the hole (shown in blue in the pic).
The only other modding that needs to be done to the bar is on the inner curve of the mounting brackets. The area between to two red lines needs to be shaved down a bit in order to fit properly.
Now you have your cheap and easy 1G rear STB.
If anybody is interested in this, the bar you need is for a '93-'02 Mitsubishi Mirage. They list them separately at many retailers ('93-'96, '97-'02), and ebay, however they are exactly the same.
I don't have a review of how well it works yet, as I'm still in the process of installing my head and FMIC.
