I cant firgure out what suspention set up I need, I'm riding on stock GSX AWD suspention and 17" rims, Looking for fun drive setup on a slight drop..

after reading a few posts I'm down to two set ups

Tokico Illumina shocks/springs @ $540 or KYB AGX & Eibach Pro kit both @ $665
*prices include shipping*

I keep hearing that the Illuminas can sag past the 1.7" drop after a while so I'm leading towards the AGX and Pro kit that will give me a 1.5" drop.

will I need a chamber kit?

thanks for reading and I'm looking foward to your inputs

Eibach is good if you are looking for ride quality. And the agx is adjustable ya?

In my experience, my friends who run Tokicko's I dont really like them they are okay... arent specifically in dsm's but in the sport compact class in integras and civic..

Personally, I have ran KYBs in my previous Talon.. w/ h&r sport springs..

They were Great!.. However, I will be needing a suspension setup in my current Talon.. and have been thinking about the eibachs for more ground clearance..

except I think I will miss the height of the car being a bit lower to the ground..

If anyone has pics please post for the OP so he can decide on not just opinion of ride quality but how the 2Gs will sit on eibachs!

Im still undecided on the shock but for springs I am going to for sure run h&r autocross springs. Ride quality be damned I wanna corner!

I am planning on running tokico iluminas and eibach springs in my car, i know that endefffect0 has them on his car and it sits real nice. any pics he has up will show you how it sits. I dont know what struts he is running but I think they are illumina. The car has a real nice lower to it that just makes it look right but not so low that you have to many clearance issues. Maybe he can chime in with his opinion of them

konis and eibachs are the way to go, then when you want something better just get ground control coilovers for the konis. That is one of the best setups for under 2 grand. Actually many wisemen on this sight say that is the best way to go unless you want to spend over 2k on top notch coilovers. Im running konis and eibacks pros right now and love it. I will be switching to ground controls relatively soon!

I have had the AGX and if you lower the front at all they will blow quickly- they are actually longer than the stock shocks. I know have the Tokicos and they are great.

I have the Tokico setup, awd version (lower). I love them. No issues at all! Not to stiff, or bouncy. Plus a lifetime warranty on the struts for the original owner.

Yep! Mine haven't sagged. They have been on the car for a yea.

I know it's different cars but I have Tokico Illumina/H&R Sport in my 2G and KYB AGX/Sportline in my 1G and without question I would take a ride in my 2G any day of the week over the 1G. Both look very well and have a nice stance but the AGXs are very stiff, even on the softest setting. The Illuminas have a good distance of adjustment and the ride quality is much better.

Not to redirect but I I purchased a set of Tein SS full coilover kit for around 500.00 used. They out performed every single combination of strut and spring I had previously used to date, including KYB AGX, KONI and Tokiko. Using springs from companies like, Eibach, Intraxx, and Ground control. On one of my eclipses I have the Tokiko combination, and another the Tein SS The ride is like night an day difference. Even without any other chassis modifications or braces the TEIN keep my GS planted to the ground while offering streetable comfort that even a classy woman would enjoy. The Tokiko combo make my car feel more sturdy that stock but leave me wanting more when faced with real cornering.

There are even two sets of TEIN SS for sale on ebay right now for incredible prices. Heres a link to the ones I have, with one exception, these come with the anodized pillow ball mounts I believe which mine didn't have :sosad:

Its one of those things you can't truly explain, you just have to trust me! save and buy full coilovers!

I have the tokico adjustable on the front of the car now and there has been no sag. Maybe it was actually theor springs that had issues.

Not sure exactly, BUT BUT BUT... checked ebay again, and I found another set for 500 for the GSX that are FLEX! they have the digital in cabin controller for adjustable strut dampening. (from the driver seat):rocks:

sorry got a little excited about that find. Guess it's my turn to research the difference between GS and GSX suspension.

GS/GST have identical suspensions. The GSX's will have a higher rate in the rear.

I've been using some plain-jane Tokico HP's (the non-adjustable kind) w/ Tokico springs. in my daily driver for several years. The springs settled a bit in the first month or two, but hasn't sagged since. The ride hasn't changed since I installed them; they still "feel" new.

How much of a drop did you endup with, 1.7inches?

After they settled, it was something closer to 1.25-1.5'ish drop.

I'm not trying to sell anyone on the Tokico stuff; I know there are much better setups and I don't have first hand experience with any other budget suspension setups to compare with. I use my car to drive to school, get groceries, drop the kid off at school, and that's about it. I don't race it around or drive aggressively, I don't even drive fast. For what I use it for, I am plenty satisfied.

This is the setup on the car in my avatar:

TOKICO HP SHOCKS SPRINGS 95-99 Eclipse 2WD - eBay (item 360320169869 end time Jan-15-11 13:59:06 PST)

Like Locke said, they are great for daily driving and better than stock. For spirited driving however, I am completely dissatisfied. I feel that expectation met reality in this situation. I was of the impression that anything aftermarket would be race ready. Yes I was a fool once. I expected corvette handling on a daewoo budget.

live, learn and buy full coilovers from now on.
