Driver's side is much lower now, still in normal specs?

So long story short, I did a cheap suspension upgrade last fall to new kyb GR2s and Tein S-Techs. They were SUPPOSED to drop the car 1.6 inches, but as can be seen in these pics it was definately more than that...

The first picture is the front passenger side. 2.5 fingers of gap, looks good and is fine by me.

This is the driver's side. 1-1.5 fingers of gap, obviously lower than the other side and too low for me in Michigan.

What do you guys think happened here? I'm now trying to come up with a new (still fairly cheap) setup to put in this spring but I want to get your guys opinions on this first.

buy some Megan coilovers? I have mine on and I love them. my only suggestion, by some softer replacement springs. They arent that bad, but for a daily driver, and bumpy roads, i can see it getting to you after a bit

Are you sure THAT little of a gap is normal on a 1.6 inch drop?

TurboBlue- how much did you pay for yours? I think they're way out of my budget.

Its normal. I have the eibach pro and my drivers side and passenger side are EXACTLY the same amount of gap as yours. And as TurboBlue said, for a DD and here in Michigan, the roads suck more than enough to annoy us as it is.

so if i get springs with a 1 inch drop i'll actually get a 2 inch drop on the front driver's side? Sometimes DSMs drive me insane...

PsiRemix- Very nice car, I think I saw you at one of the WMDSM meets last year, not positive though.

Thought about shimming the springs (or the mount, a little bit) on the driver's side?

Side note: Perhaps you should be investing in a new, matching set of (hopefully) non-Dominator tires.

Measure from the center of the wheel to the fender. From what I see you have two different tires, which could be making the difference. If I were you I would be VERY concerned about this possibility... you have AWD and different sized wheels will wear out your diff.

they're both 205 55 R16s, Discount tire was SUPPOSED to match that tire up with the other one that has 90% tread but they didn't so now i'm pissed...

I'll be switching the tires so the treads match up better.

Locke- Thses will just be my winter tires, this summer i'll be getting another set wheels/tires.

How is that much gap difference normal? I guess it doesn't make sense to me, and i've certainly never heard of it prior.

First gens tend to typically ride a little lower on one side, but mine seems to be a little more than "little" LOL.

You gotta keep in mind that manufacturers will make their tires "within spec." In other words, even though the numbers printed on the side are the same, different brands will still be slightly different sizes. So to get a more accurate idea about the lean, measure from the center of the wheel like I said before. And also try to keep in mind from now on that when replacing tires on an AWD, do all 4 at the same time with the same brand and model.

Alright I'll measure 'em tomorrow morning and post 'em up, thanks or all the info No Skillz :)

On another note, when I bought my GR2s I had no idea that I could find full sets o AGXs on ebay for just $330 shipped! I spent 220 shipped for the GR2 dammit LOL, oh well you live you learn. Anywyas my question is, if i DO get AGXs and keep the S-techs, of course with half a bumpstop on each corner, could i adjust the shock enough that it wouldn't have this bottoming out problem even with it that low?

Oh and also, can anyone point me toward a shop online that sells ront bumpstops?

What about koni yellows? They aren't necessarily CHEAP but much cheaper than a coilover.

I'm still mystified by this gap diff. I've never seen it before, and there are a couple lowered dsm's in town here.

Hah, wow. Damn dsm's. It's such a love hate relationship.

The only problem with agx's is if you drop more than 1" you void the warranty. For more than 1.2" i'd go with koni's.

Personally, i'm going to do koni's and prokits.

The driver's front is the heaviest corner on our cars (1G and 2G). Since spring manucaturers dont specify FR, FL, RR, and RL, we can assume that the fronts are of the same spring rate and the rears match as a pair. That's primarily the reason why the driver's front is lower. Coilovers allow you to even out the setting, but more importantly they should be used to match corner weights of the car.
