I was originally getting 4 Koni Sports with some H&R OE Sports with rates of 430F/260R.

That all went to hell so I was thinking rather than skimp and getting Illuminas with over powering springs like the H&R's, or skimp even worse and get ProKits and Illuminas..

I would buy 2 Front Koni Sports, the H&R OE sports for around $285 + $200 and stick with the stock rear shocks with either the stock front springs on them, or risk popping them with the rear OE's drop.

So my question is, would it be possible to use the stock front springs on the stock rear shocks? Or should I just risk the OE's on the rears until 8 months later when I can likely afford the rear Konis?

Thank you.

I'd go with the OE's. The front springs are wider than the rear springs I believe, so it woundn't work that well.

Hmmm.... sounds familiar :p

The answer is yes, the front and rear springs are physically almost (if not the exact) same dimension. The only difference being the spring rate/thickness of the coils. If you want to, you can put the front springs on the back and vice versa. I know this because I just received a set of Tanabe GF210's and the fronts and rears look almost identical. I pulled out my stock springs, and again, they look essentially the same. However, I'm not recommending that you do this.

I would just use the H&R OE Sports on the stock shocks in the rear until you can buy replacements. I don't think your stock shocks will blow from a minimal drop and slight increase in spring rate. As far as the rates being 430/260, I don't think this is correct. I know where you got the info and I'm not saying that person is wrong, but those rates are much more than a 15-20% increase over the stock spring rates that OE Sports are advertised as having.

I have not had a single problem with my Illuminas with ProKit springs, is there a reason you do not like this setup?

I have done 2 seasons of AutoX and drag racing and I have loved the way they handled the loads and eliminated roll/bounce.

Holy wow, did our plan go sour. I am still pretty rattled about it!

I'm glad you like them, and by no means do I think they're a "bad" setup, after all jtobyjust informed me that is the street combo of choice from RRE.

I, however, am under the impression that I would desire more from that setup since the spring rates are equal to tha stock spring rates, so really the only difference is adjustable dampening/rebound and a drop of 1.3 inches.

While lowering my CoG is a great thing I am under the impresison that there is more to a suspension upgrade than just a drop.

I would hate to spend the money and be dissatisfied. I can't even afford my $1600 insurance coming up in october so money is crucial.

If though, the H&R's aren't rates of ~ 430F/260R (it does seem fishy) is there a spring that would provide such rates?

I don't think so. Most 2G lowering springs are less than 350lb/inch up front and less than 200lb/inch in the rear. The one exception I can think of is the Megan Racing springs with 335f/250r, but the drop is 2"

The Tanabe GF210 is 5.8 / 3.1 kg/mm (324.79 / 173.59 lbs/in) and lowers it 1.1 / 0.9. Also they cost approx $160. These are just as stiff as the Prokit but cost less and lower it less

because many DSMers ONLY go with proven things. That is why they get Prokits even though they are alot more money. Also they buy Apexi N1 even though the bending on their pipes is horrible. DSMers are afraid to try things that are new. I know Tanabe is a good brand so im getting those springs with my next paycheck:thumb:
