I'm removing my ignition switch, for 2 reasons. One I need to delete the steering wheel lock and secondly, I'm thinking about moving the ignition switch to the custom made center panel, I'm making and putting a push button start in. This is going to be a track car (No flaming for doing this on a DD, thanks:sneaky:)

Anyway, the question I have is There's a small plastic plunger on the left side of the barrel and it's got 2 wires going to it. I'm assuming it's the reminder chime switch, but don't want to cut the wires just yet, as I sure a hell can't get a screwdriver to the screws, so does anyone know the trick to getting them off?? they seem to be in a position that would only be accessible if you take out the 2 security screws and remove the entire switch/ turn signal assembly. OR should I just cut the wires and be done.

Thanks for the help.:thumb:

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not sure at this point what to do. Apart from doing all the work to get security bolts out, I'm looking at this plunger switch and wondering what it's really for. It's attached to a harness that goes to this switch in question and the bulb on the ring that goes around the key slot. I've got the ignition harness off and plan on going push button with it, but this little devil on the column has me puzzled.

When I put the barrel back in the housing the side of the barrel pushes the plunger in. It's not going to pop out unless the barrel is removed, so now I'm wondering if this is some sort of kill switch if the barrel is removed:confused:

Any takers if this switch is important:hmm:

I'll try and get a picture posted later tonight.

Thanks guys.

Here's a picture of the plunger I'm talking about.

You are talking about the white plastic part on the left right?
With the little "nipple" poking inside the lock cylinder?
I have no idea what it does. ROFL
If I had to guess (which I don't but I"m going to anyways).
I'd say it is for the "chime" when you leave your keys in?

Lets wait for a wiseman to chime in...
No pun intended. :D

Yeah, that's the one.

I just figured it out. If you take the key out of the barrel the plunger actually pushes on the small pad in the barrel and obviously opens the circuit for the "chime". When the key is in, it locks the pad from being pushed in by the plunger.

Thanks for the help. Got it figured out.
