Hi everyone!
I would like to begin this build thread with a small introduction. I am currently 26 years old and living in Chicago, the northwest side to be more specific. I have been around cars since I was a baby, but started to seriously wrench on them like most people at the age of 16 when I bought my first car which I still own to this day, my 1995 Nissan 240SX. Now that car is a whole other story, but this is a DSM forum so lets cut to the chase. I have been a DSMer since before owning my Nissan. I have been wetting my panties about 1Gs and 2Gs since the moment I had a ride in one. Long story short one of the fellow board members by the name of Decoder22 was the one who introduced me to our common addiction = BOOST.
A couple years and countless nights in garages, building and parting out cars, helping others, fixing peoples cars etc. I finally decided it was time to build my own DSM. However I took a different approach to this. Since I already had an ongoing Nissan project ( 1JZGTE > S14 ) I needed a car that was a bit more practical for everyday activities since I am on a tight budget and I needed a daily driver. Happens so that back in 2009 I purchased a very clean 2nd owner 1986 Mitsubishi Mighty Max pickup truck with a 5spd. This was a Sport model so it features a 2.6 L SOHC carburated G54b. In other words it already has a 4G family engine in it.
Fast forward to 2012 and I am in need of a daily driver after selling my SC300 Lexus. I decided to register and drive the pickup but at the same time slowly purchase parts and do as much work on it while using it for other activities. As a matter of fact just tonight I picked up what will become the starting point of my project, a 6 bolt bare block. Now this may or may not be the block i will swap into the car, but it will help me develop some ideas for how I want to lay out the engine bay.
This will not be a show car nor will it be a race car, but it will be a daily driven truck. I do however want my engine bay to remain as clean and useful as possible so that I may make as many adjustments and improvements to the setup as the budget gets better and expands. So in other words I will be setting up small foundations for taking the build into its next levels. The plans are the following:
- Find a clean 6 bolt block and head ( 2.0 Turbo or N/A )
- Clean and refresh the block and head with new parts and gaskets.
- ARP head studs
- Metal MLS head gasket
- 2G or EVO exhaust manifold
- 14B or Evo 16G turbo
- EVO injectors
- Stock fuel rail, adjustable FPR, high flow fuel pump custom lines
- Custom intercooler and piping
- Custom exhaust system
- 6 bolt flywheel
- OEM or better rods / pistons
- Eprom ECU with DSM link
- Custom wire harness with quick connect fittings
- Other goodies
Im sure the list will grow as time goes one. But for now I will be posting up pictures of the progress and all the issues I will be addressing. Hope you stay tuned and enjoy the build. Thanks!
