A friend of mine has a 90 talon Non turbo DOHC 2.0, I have a 92 Eclipse DOHC 2.0Turbo... I was wondering if I could take his tranny and swap it into my car cuz mine on its way out and his shifts smooth. My tranny grinds into 2nd and at Redline in first wont go into second, it just grinds until rpm lowers. So I wanted to swap the trannys I was wondering if the gear ratios or anything are different. Or are they the exact same transmissions? Please help me out I really need it.

Thanks

Dimensionally they are the same. Model number is the same for NT to T, but they have slighty different gear ratios. NT is slightly higher.

You should be able to use the turbo flywheel/clutch with the NT trans.

I use GM syncromesh for manual transmissions. GL-5 based oil. Stay away from the GL-4 type. It has additives that will help wear the syncro facing faster. It's nearly $10 a quart but well worth it.

having high gear ratios would make preformance less on my turbo car right? I was under the impression lower is better for turbo.

Manual Turbo Trans: f5m33
Manual N/T Trans: f5m22

The gear ratios are larger. But in my personal experience, trying to fit a turbo transmission onto a n/t flywheel and clutch, the non turbo flywheel was a little bit larger in diameter, enough so that I could not get the transmission on.

Using the turbo flywheel with the n/t trans may give you problems with the starter, because the teeth may not reach long enough to reach where the starter goes on the n/t trans, but I did not try that so I am not 100% sure.

I am also not sure on the strenght of a non turbo trans, and if they offer any performance clutches for it. I belive with a stock n/t clutch, you MAY slip. But again, something I am not 100% sure on.

The bell housing of a 90' n/t is smaller. I tried it and found out the hard way by carving a groove inside the bell housing with the flywheel and mangling the starter then the bolts for the bell housing snapped off in the block. I put a 90' nt tranny in a 92' nt.
