...somebody doesn't think I should! My dad actually. He was going to lend me money to get it rebuilt, so he doesn't want me to mess it up. Here is my side of it.

I was going to purchase some OEM parts like syncros, etc. and get some aftermarket parts at the same time (shift forks, double syncro 2nd). From there, I was going to follow these instructions . I have the CAPS program also off the manual CD (have that too). I don't think I will have a problem rebuild it either. I have access to a press and I will only have to purchase a gear puller and maybe another tool or two. I have done timing belts, pulled engines, and worked on RC car transmissions for years. Not that RC transmissions will be any help, but it helps understand how they work. I have a pretty good understanding of everything else that is involved.

My father doesn't want me to rebuild it myself since he will be loaning me most of the money to get it fixed. He wants me to take it to a local shop to get it rebuild so it will be under warranty. Well, I don't want aftermarket syncro crap put in my transmission. A shop won't warranty their parts put in, but their labor instead. I would have them put in all the parts that I supply. I still don't trust their work though. Will everything be torqued properly? All clearances will be correct? The previous owner had the transmission rebuild before with first and third syncros only. That was maybe a year or two ago and the syncros are shot already. That just shows you how bad some peoples work is. The car was driven correctly also and never launched by the previous owner. I launched it about 5 times, but that was after I had the problems with the syncros anyways.

I just don't know what to do. My father will loan me the money once. If I mess up, he isn't going to give me more money. But if I take it somewhere, the transmission might not shift as nice as I could get it to shift if I rebuilt it myself. I don't know, HELP ME OUT PLEASE!!!

DONT BOTHER, TOO much to do.... Very hard, you will need to get measuments, and to get the bearing races out you will need to freez them and crap. i would pay to have it done right. I have had a headache of getting mine rebuilt for 6 months.

It took you 6 months to rebuild yours? How did it turn out? Thanks for the help. I think I am taking it to Excesive Auto soon insted of doing it myself. I will be doing it next time for sure though.

Used gearboxes are cheap, grab one and work on it. See how it goes. Meanwhile, have yours done by someone who's been in there before and make sure it's right.

i will agree with him, you should get a cheap tranny form somwere and take it apart and look at it. This way there is no frustration and rush because you dont have to get the tranny back to working order. If you mess up and get get all the parts back togther then you can just junk it and thats all no biggie. Hope this hells ya
