did the 1gs come with two different awd systems. or just a rumor ive heard. if so whats the difference. all i know is my car says it has viscous coupling differentials on a decal by the door.
 
yes there was a difference in the 1g awd it was switched around 90-91 to the vcu in the center diff and also the rear, supposed to be more reliable than the common diff but Why have they now went back to common diff in the new models including the EVO, vcu is why so many jeep grand cherokees have so much transfer trouble

Is this a joke???!

AWD system is the same in ALL DSMs (90-99). There were some changes to some of the drivetrain components, so you can not interchange those parts, but VCU is identical!

They have not changed the actual AWD system.

guess my mmc training was a hoaxe, all them wasted hours and certificates i have.
