After all my reseach on slicks, size, ..ect I finally ended up buying Mickey Tompson 22 X 8 with 15 inch rims.

Since fwd end the 1/4 mile at the begining of 4th gear we need a smaller overall diameter for the front tires to have better performance and finish with a higher rpm in 4th. I only did 4 runs and made a 2.000 seconds 60', no experience yet, stock suspension. I had sever knock in third gear so I couldn't floor it which cost me at least half a second and my 60' will go down to 1.800 with practice.

60' = 2.000
1/8 = 8,698 @79,37
1/4 = 13,693 @97,61

I'm aiming to hit 12 seconds next saturday 16G with stock IC, stock internals, stock suspension, ( if I can get rid of my knock in third)
Wish me luck :D

To conclude I highly recommend M/T 22 X 8 unless you trap at more than 125MPH.

Sweet! I have an FWD also, so traction is pretty crappy. I plan to setup my car for the highway, but I get a few drag races in there. Have fun w/ it, nice pics too!

Why not for traps higher than 125 MPH?

How is it launching with slicks w/o LSD?

Jake

Hmm, looks real nice! I bet you can pull off a 1.8. Maybe better with suspension.

What rims are the slicks on? got a link?

Because if you trap at higher than 125 you will have too much power for the size of those slicks and your RPM will pobably be too high in 4th gear at the end of your run. You would need wider and taller slicks at 125+MPH M/T 24 X 9 or 10 would probably do the job better on 14 or 15 inch wheels.

Launching with slicks w/o an LSD is ok, I don't have any wheel hop at all, I corrected the problem a long time ago with energy suspension bushings, an LSD would only give me better traction when the tires start to spin.

I might look into those, I need some traction. My best run thus far is a 14.8 at 94 MPH with a 2.4 60'.

Right on brother u like em eh!!! I got a set sent out today will be here on friday!!! And she launches pretty hard with them?? And mine are same kind and same size!! Ya what did u use for rims?? Im thinkin a factory set of ford probe wheels??

not doubting your driving or anything, but my friend has a 95 hatchback civic with only h&r springs, blown struts. he has a gsr motor with a turbo and he pulled off a 1.8 60ft with only falken street drag radials. he ran 12.8 that run. every other run was in the mid 13's though with 2.1 60ft's and one other 2.0 60ft. i told him the best way to launch a fwd was the same as awd. ride the clutch out so the wheels are barely gripping, where you just hear that chirp chrip chirp sound as your pulling and slowly increase throttle. but never floor it in 1st gear (unless ur still on stock t25) then 2nd gear u cant just bang it into gear cuz u will break the wheels lose. you gottab get it into 2nd without a sudden rush of power so it will grab. as soon as it grabs then floor it for the rest of the race. if you have a huge turbo like a 60 trim then u will have to do this with 3rd also. i drove my gf's 97 gst around for a year before i had my awd and i always had a great launch in it. i'm 100% confident that a 2.0 60ft can be ran with stock tires and def a sub 2.0 60ft with street slicks. everyone think that just droppin the clutch at diff rpm's is the way to go and its not. some say 3500 rpm, some say 5000 rpm, asome say 2500 rpm. its all the same, you drop it then floor it or feather it and all you do is spin. my frend with the civic couldnt get better then a 13.5 and i told him to do what i said and he pulled a 12.8 someone please try my method and if you do it right, i'm sure you will be impressed. should def have a upgraded a clutch though cuz my way kills the clutch

Thats the trick with any car that has traction. Just slip the clutch just enough where you dont bog. I am pretty sure he understands that if he is running 13's @ 97mph.

Sounds like you guys have some good experience launching, let me ask a newbee question,
I just broke in my act 2600 clutch, i have a 16 g small turbo, front mount intercooler, greddy b.o.v, and other small stuff, I tried launching it a couple times yesterday to get the hang of it, it kept boging out a little, I know im still working on it but heres my question. It tried burning some rubber, on 1st gear it started of nice but towards hmm i want to say 5000rpm it went really fast to like 6 1/2, im not sure if the clutch slipped or if the tires just spinned faster, then when I shifted to second it kind of bogged and started taking off kinda slow????
what do you guys think happend???

Anyone that tells me that they made a 3150 pound, fwd, stock open diff, 32 psi street tires(+200 tw), stock suspension DSM car make a 2.000 60' must tell the guys at the track that there is someting wrong with there system.. My best MPH on a time slip is 657MPH, errors are known to happen, some things are just not possible...

miguels3000 Your tires where surely slipping, as far as bogging down, either you launched with your RPM's too low, you let your clutch out too fast, or you didn't give enough gas when letting out the clutch. Try slipping the clutch like crazy and giving at least half throttle and slowly getting it almost to the floor, you'll see a huge difference in your launching.

Thanks Nexius, it was my tires spinning, I checked the air pressure and it was all the way up to 45 psi, because we raised it for the towing when it broke down, ive been practicing on my launch, i gotta say it is an all new Technique, im going to try slipping the clutch more when I do my shifting and do what you said, thanks,

It can and does happen. 1.863 60' on drag radials. stock driveline. And many many more 1.9's! Some people will never get it.

Launching is not something you just go and on your first time at the track you nail.

if you do't know what (200+ tw) = 200+ threadwear means you really don't know what you are talking about .. drag radials with over 200+ threadwear yeh right .. more like 60 and less ...

Wow you got me there. Who gives a fukk about tread wear? If the tires you have suck get something better. THere is always some ass on these boards that has to try and degrade what someone has done, with worthless and minute details. Dude go find someone else to try and bag on.

WOW I really don't get what your problem is, I just stated a fact nothing more. Who cares about threadwear... well everyone but you I guess. Minut detail, threadwear, you must be joking, if you don't care about your tires lasting 1000 miles that's your problem but most everyone here does. Drag radials are almost the same as slicks.

I agree with you on one thing yes there is always someone that can't read or doesn't know what they're talking about on this board and this time it's you. I'm not degrading anyone by stating that (normal) street tires are not drag radials... it's a fact. By the way I run on M/T slicks and I have tried drag radials and street tires also so yes I do know what I'm talking about.

Please stop replying to this thread "ILOSE". I only wrote this thread to help others in selecting slicks since I had a hard time getting the information myself.

Thank you.

I thought I'd chip in on this. I recently used my new slicks for about 15-20 runs during the shootout weekend and have to say that they are the best thing I've bought so far as well. Tire spin is not a problem anymore even with 20psi in 1st gear...we all know what that would do on a radial.

My best 60' of the weekend was a 1.962 and the rest were 2.0-2.1's. Obviously some practice still needed but...in time.

I believe turbotalon92 has the same slicks and has consistenly gotten 1.8 60's with then

The one's I decided on are M&H 24.5X8.5X15 which I feel are the best choice since you get a little more sidewall.

And my best 60' in my full weight (spare, system ect.) on 17" nitto radials was 2.092 so it is possible.

If you actually meant 2.000 then its not what I pulled off but pretty close. That was done on the T-25 as well and when the car was an auto still, that may be the difference. It's a little easier to launch a small turbo car with an auto tranny.

Yes I know and that is why I'm trying to clear out some misconception about drag radials(nitto, and others), street tires (standard) and slicks... some people run on standard street tires (200-500 and more threadwear) and don't understand why they can't launch very well, nitto drag radials are 100TW, I even saw some drag radials rated at 0TW. They cannot be compared to standard street tires.

Some people run on the track with 0TW tires and compare their times with people that run standard street tires.
I just think that the term "street tires" is too general to compare.

The nittos I have are normal street tires not their drag radials thats all I was saying. I will say too that a real street tire would be useless on my new setup and that 60' I did get would never happen again. There's a big difference in all 3 categories, slicks obviously being the best but people have had good luck with drag radials.

You don't find your slicks to be too small? Do you get any tire spin at all? How about how the car sits with them. I was afraid my bumper would scrape with a smaller tire.

Well a few things here. First I will not stop replying that makes no sense. You stated no FACT. Those are your opinions. Now fact is that I went 16,000miles on my so drag radials. I would say that is pretty good. Drag radials are nothing like slicks that must be another one of your facts?

Don't know what I am talking about huh? You have no idea how many tire combos I have tried and still you think you know facts, just because they did not work for you does not make them bad or what not. but you should make it clear that those are " Your Opinons"! Again launching is all skill, tires can only help so much.

I am not trying to start shite, but you said you were trying to clear some misconceptions but you only added to them with some of your comments. I am mearly trying to help you see the light. And please stop trying to degrade me, as you still have much to learn with those 2.0 60' times on slicks. Shut your pie hole and learn something.

.7 tenths is a lot to lose for that 12 sec time. but I suspect a low 13 is in order with a good launch.

And lastly I would not recommend a 22" slick as it is easly overcome as you gain power. A 24.5" is best! And go as wide as you can or will tolerate. I run 10.2" wide for reference.

Where did you find those?.Ive been lookin but I guess not hard enough. When I ran Falkin drag radials and open diff, my m.p.h was 112.When I went with Regular Remington all weather tires ,Phantom grip, and little more hp,max mph was 105.But ran the same time of 13.6.60ft on the drag radials was 2.1.60ft on allweather was 2.4.Was able to start highboost(20psi)earlier into the run w/drag radials.Slicks like those should get me into 1.8 60ft land.

i have a fwd talon and with a phantom grip and pep boy tires i ran a 14.5 at a 102 with a 2.8 60. i am going to put tires and calm down with the petal next time. what do you think i can expect out of that

Summit sells them, that's where I got them, I am not sure of any place else. I can't really compare times with and without but I can say that the first time at the track this year on my normal street tires was a joke. Once I got used to the tires gripping on full boost in 1st gear I actually didn't mind owning a FWD anymore.
