Fastest 16g in Canada Goes 11.46@126mph

I have been on this Bord for a while now have just never gotten around to make a post. Anyways my name is Nathan Taback and i drive a 1990 Talon. I have been to the dsm/evo shootout for the past 2 yrs. This year i managed to come 3rd in the dsm stock appearing class. I am from Canada, and as it is getting cold up here (we may have to head to our igloos early ) i thought i would try to end the season on a good note. Not thinking that i would end up beating my personal best by 2 tenths.

The car was tuned and built by ForcePower Motorsports. I cant say enough about these guys, If you want a 16g to run into the 11's give these guys a call!!

Here is a link to the video i recently put together. Camera work isnt the greatest but what can ya do..

Congrats man, you've been through a lot with this car, I'm glad you finally got your "11.5" goal even though you beat it lol. Now throw on those hoosiers and beat your personal record again!

Great job! Very nice trap speed to go with that 1/4 mile time.

If you don't mind me asking? What kind of mods do you have done to the car other then the 16g? Do you have cams and SMIM? How much boost? How much does the car weigh?

Impressive! I'd be interested in the modifications as well. The trap speeds were all over the place.....some looking pretty high for a heavier 16g powered DSM. I'm gonna take a stab and say there's a bottle in the car..............

Way to go Nate.

Can't say enough about your dedication and determination towards pushing this car further and further.

I really believe with some more work this car will run a 10.

Below is a link to some info on the car, I will let Nate fill in any blanks, if he wishes.

FPM-EVOIII 16G

16g

Very nice build for sure........280 cams.......interesting....

With a full weight DSM= 3110lbs. plus driver, maybe 3300....I'm still not seeing where the power is to run 126 mph........

The EVO 3 16g is definitely a power maker for sure and would be my next choice for a turbo if I ever take the stocker off.

Anyway, that's definitely impressive nonetheless......

As you say, there are some "blanks" to be filled in.............

I can fill in some blanks for you guys,
The car is full weight minus front bumper and rear bumper. No nitrous but i am useing C-16. Boost is around 27psi.
I have no idea were the mph is coming from guys, ive been looking at my slips and logs, my mph in the 1/8 has gotten slower. While my 1/4 mph keeps rising .
Here is a link for the parts included in a "stage 2" build up:

Nate, your way to modest. Your mph in a large part is due to your driving, you are driving the 1/4 in the way it should be driven. Not by the seat of your pants, but with your head. All those nights at the track tuning and working with Pat "Blackbird" have resulted in you finding the absolute best way to get that thing moving. There is lots left in your tune yet, I wouldn't be supprised to see a 130 mph trap one day.

I've seen this car, and raced this car. It's defiantly one fast street car.

Maybe the bigger cams are giving it its trap speed? Idk. But good stuff, now get it as light as mines and try again lol.

Wow,impressive numbers.I have gone 11.2 on a 35R,and am back on a 16g,why have such a huge turbo and run the same as a small one,the lag sucks for a DD.

Once again,nice driving.

Just out of curiosity, what RPM are you shifting at with those 280's and a 16g?

ok.......so you're gaining 30 mph at the top of the track, that's pretty damn good.

That's about where I figured your 1/8 would be.....

Ya the car tends to gain around 30mph after the 1/8th. I think its a combo of a bunch of things, cams, tunning, driveing.... If the car pulls to 130MPH i will sh#t a brick hahaha

That is unbelievable, i mean it. I don't believe it.

Good job, good luck next year.
Do u have a SMIM on the car?
280s is an interesting choice, i had BC280s on my 16G and it was horseshit, no power till 5k, then fell on its face up top as usual.

He has a stock 1G intake manifold, stock TB, 1G exhaust manifold, stock 02 dump, stock internal wastegate and actuator, all exhaust parts are port matched. The HKS 280 cams were selected for future upgrades more than his 16G set-up, but they have performed great on this set-up. For a 16G this car makes alot of power in the second 1/8

That is alot of MPH gain at the top of the track. I think my best gain from 1/8 to 1/4 is around 24.8 MPH. On my 11.49 it was down at about 20 MPH and I'm thinking it's because the slicks were at about 11 psi versus 14-15 last time out.

So, 11.24 now! That's awesome stuff.

I still can't get over the 127 MPH traps, at 28psi, on the standard wastegate actuator. I can only guess that those 280's really help. It seems that even though those cams are designed for larger turbos and higher powerbands, they and other cams like 272 can still draw performance at higher RPM on the small turbos, whose "powerbands" are much lower in the rev range.

The car is not only quick, it's just plain fast.

How was your 60' and 1/8 mile on the 11.24?

Yea for the weight that car is hauling, its weird. Well I just added biggish cams to my evo316g setup ( Kelford 272s) maybe the bigger cams is whats needed to get some traps like those...

I'll respond for Nate here, I know he's real busy with work and getting this car ready to run 10's next season.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quote from Nate in an earlier post:
The car is full weight minus front bumper and rear bumper. No nitrous but i am useing C-16. Boost is around 27psi.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have just finished a custom set of headers / external wastegate / custom "J" pipe and some serious porting on the turbo for him. Next were going to convert it to E85 and get a roll cage in it, so that he won't get booted from the track.

There's going to be a few more mod's over the winter, but we'll leave them till later.

Wow! Congrats!

I'm really curious what my setup will do in the spring. I run a similar setup. Few months back with OEM cams and IC I went 107 @ 18-19psi on the factory ECU.

Since I added BC stage II cams, FMIC, 780cc injectors, stg 3 chip from dsmchips.com, e30 fuel and pre-turbo and post meth injection. Feels pretty strong at 27psi. I was hoping for 115 traps. After seeing your results I hope i under estimated

I'm curious what the timing was at during these runs? Engine management used?
