Well our local track closes in two weeks so I borrowed a local guys slicks and decided to go and see if I could manage a 12 second pass with the slicks on. My first run I had my stutterbox to low and bogged a bit but let me tell you guys who have never run slicks on FWD its aewsome.:rocks: First run was a 13.6@94 with a 2.0 60ft. My boost line fell off my meth injection switch so it started knocking in the middle of third which killed me.

Second run I turned the stutterbox up to 5k and got a 1.9 60ft and managed a 13.4@105. My last pass turned up the stutterbox to 5650rpm and got a 1.8 60ft and ran the best of a 13.2@106. All I have to say is I think with some race gas I can prob squeeze out a 12 but I may have a 50trim by next season.

Also anyone who has been trying to race your fwd with any decent power without slicks, you have to get a pair and try them. I felt like I was awd again, it really makes that much of a difference. I just wish our track did not close so early.:barf:

These runs were done on 21psi and 24.5x8x15 m&h slicks running 12psi in the slicks. I also have a quaife lsd.

Thats defently what I like to hear, I think slicks or maybe drag radials (because of my big brakes) will be in my near future. I went to the track recently & didn't have alot of time to play with my setup but the best I netted on street tires was a 13.7 @ 110 mph. This was with a horrible, almost 2.5 second 60 ft. Traction wasn't completely horrible (wasn't getting crazy amount of wheel hop 3/4's the way through 2nd like my first time at the track last fall), would spin abit in second at WOT but in first was only like 30-40% throttle & I was slipping. I'm sure a nice set of drag radials could net me a few more mph on the same tune (21-22 psi) & lay down some mid 12 second runs, without to much problem.

Slicks and FWD definitely belong together. Lord knows that street radials with 300+ fwhp never did any good. I have countless timeslips that read 15.1@110, 13.9@109, etc. With a nice pair of slicks or good tires (I personally loved bfg kdw2's for street tires), 12's are NOT out of reach with FWD.

I can tell you now when I tried drag radials my wheel hop seemed even worse than with my street tires. It was wheel hopping all the way through 2nd gear at the end of last season. Since then I told myself I wont go back with anything except slicks, becuase before that I exploded my diff from such bad wheel hop. Slicks truly are amazing how well they hook up ecspecially with the quaife lsd in there.

Hmmm, thats not something I want to hear. I'm not sure if I'm able to run a 16" run because of my Wilwood brakes (if they will fit, they will be rediciously close) & it seems thats about the limit on rim size, but 17's in drag radials isn't an issue.

I already have a Quaife LSD & have never once had wheel hop on the street. The only time I ever got wheel hop was my first time at the track last fall. It wasn't much above freezing that day & I don't think the track was prepped at all. I was also running a cheeper Z rated tire that had 3 summers use & were getting pretty hard. My current Kumhos MX's work great on the street but still can't pull of the 60's anywears close to where I'd like to be.

Yeah the only place I have gotten wheel hop is the track also. I tried some nitto 555 that were pretty much brand new. I dont know if they were not set up correctly or what but my wheel hop was just as bad if not worse with the drag radials. Your brakes are so big you cant fit 15s on? That kind of sucks, just out of curiousity do you do alot of autocross or something to need such big brakes. I was amazed by how well the slicks worked I did not think I would cut a 1.8 60ft my first time out with slicks thats for sure. BTW my 60ft with the drag radials I had was a 2.4 because my wheel hop was so bad I had to let off.

awesome man:thumb:
i was out there last friday and ran a 13.4 @107 in my heap. slicks make a world of difference on a FWD. (all my other cars have been RWD.)
i forgot they close so early.. boooo i will be gone for the next 2 events. time to tear it down and start from scratch.

Ya, no way 15's are going to fit. I tried the factory 16" wheels off my buddies GST & there was maybe 1mm between the caliper & outer portion of the rim. Its seems the diameter where the spokes attach to the outer portion of the rim is smaller then the rest of the diameter on these wheels & I was hoping that maybe a set of aftermarket 16's maybe slightly larger in this area, which would allow me to run 16's, then there are a few options for slicks, otherwise its drag radials. Probably BFG's 225/45/17.

Obviously you know how bad fwd brakes suck ;) so when it was time to upgrade I was origionally going to go with the awd setup but figured I'd spend abit more & have a much more aggressive setup. Didn't really think about the slicks issue at the time as the car doesn't see much track time so I'd prefer better stopping vs what works at the drag strip. Their not as big as the 13" Baer setup, as their 12.2" but they still limit my rim choices abit but I defently won't give them up, just to be able to run slicks.

555s are crap. I had 225/50/15 bfgs and they were great. I ran them at about 14psi or so. it does feel like an awd..haha! I got consistent 2.1 60fts on ebay coilovers and stock shocks..LOL

Yeah the 555 I used were awful. 2.1 60s are pretty good for drag radials. Ill tell you what when I pulled that one 1.860ft in the car it felt like a 1.4 60ft cause I was so used to 2.4-2.6 60s with street tires.

That is awesome to hear a 2g FWD rip a 1.8 60'. I have those same MH slicks but have yet to run with them because the Jacka** who sold the the 15" steely's gave me the wrong offset.
Good job man! And thanks for the launch rpm and tire pressure info!

I've been looking into this a little and found a good 16" tire and wheel combo, but its a air over 26" so it might take a good bit of power to push them out of the hole. M&H makes a 26x11.50 r 16 DOT street/strip tire. he honda guys love the 235M&H, but it is only available in a 15" I even found a wheel that might work with them, but they are only 8" wide. I have a pm in with a M&H rep on another board and I'll let you know what he says. FWIW 26x105 slicks fit the 2gs witht he right backspacing and the narrower rim will trim the section width of the M&H tires.

As far as sliks vs Drag radials, its not even a comparison. The big bias ply sidewalls prevent nearly all if not all of the wheel hop.

I use a 26x9.5x15 Hoosier QTP. Hoosier makes a drag radial in 225/50R16 for you guys who need 16". They are 24.9" tall, 8.5" wide, and made for rims that are 7-9". I have some locals on them and 91Tsiguy has them on his awd car. You can see them in his thread on Talk. My local track is not fwd friendly and I can not get into the waterbox. My best 60' with just a dry hop are 2.0's. Which usually lead me to 12.4-12.5's@123mph.
This is with a 5500 launch, some spin in 1st and hazing in 2nd.
