Alright guys, the time has now come for me to set the small 16g aside and run my brand new RS49. Preivously, my best run on the small 16g w/ VP 110 looked something like this:

60' - 2.352 (best ever 2.173)
1/8 mi - 9.076 @ 86.40 mph
1/4 mi - 13.463 @ 110 mph

This was in a full weight 97 GST with 235/40/18 kuhmos. Mods are in profile.

Now, I will be running the RS49 with the hopes of hitting 12s on street tires. The key words there was STREET TIRES. I now have a set of Potenza SO-3s which seem to just flat out stick when warmed up correctly. I am hoping the added topend from the '49 will be enough to push the car into the 12s. It may be that there will not be enough traction to click off an E.T. much faster than a 13.4. Either way, that's what will be proved out in following weeks of track visits. I am giving myself a timeline of the end of this month to hit a 12sec pass.

If the car does not see a 12.99 sec E.T. on street tires then I will have to conclude that the small 16g is all that is needed for a FWD if you don't plan on running slicks. It just won't be worth it if the car only picks up a tenth or two.

I'm all for your goal to get into 12s on street tires, but you're never gonna get there with 18s on the car. I used to have 18s on my car but then I saw the light and dumped them for the stock 16s, and I couldn't have been happier. Improved acceleration, improved braking...think about it because I think that might be what's holding you back.

110mph trap speed is more than enough for mid-low 12s.All you need is some more traction.

Of course I suck at driving, but i've found that with more power comes more traction problems with street tires. The best I've cut to date is a 2.4 60ft and that's only going 50% throttle. If you slap on some sticky tires, then you have to worry about breaking drivetrain parts :( such is life though with a FWD car if you want go fast.

Get you a pair of used 16" stock wheels, (aluminum, steel, it dont really matter its only gonna be for track use only) and wrap em up with some fat tires like 215/55 or even 225/55 if you can (if you look around like in a junk yard or if you know somebody who may want to get rid of them you can find this setup rather cheap) , they do fit well if you're not lowered over 2.5", it don't matter the brand of the tire just make sure they have some good thread into them, deflat them to around 22 psi and try them and work you way to your best tire pressure, it will make a much better diference over 18" you'll be able to cut 2.0 60 ft easily, and if you like them you'll decide wether to get some nice tires or just get rid of them and keep your 18's.

Like I said just try this setup you'll be much happier, or maybe someone you know will let you borrow theirs just for a few tries. believe me I have 18's on my FWD and I rather not run at all if I dont have my spare 16's.

Used 16" wheels around $50 bucks one pair in a junk yard
Used 215/55 tires around $45 bucks at any used tire shop
Cutting 2.0 60 ft all night... priceless

Although im pretty sure that if you look around good you'll find this setup cheaper than that.

Good luck.
