belt destroyed

So today after i noticed a huge vibration i changed my oil and found my counter balance shaft belt completely shredded, it was a gates blue. What caused this, anyone?!? Oh btw it was a fresh rebuild and the engine just hit 100miles.

Perhaps too tight, incorrect install, one reason to do a bse, its trash now so whats next another belt?

Incorrect install? tensioner pulley on backwards? We couldn't possibly know what caused the failure. We can only speculate on what very little information you gave us.

Is the balance shaft seized? Almost sounds like someone installed the bearings wrong, or used block off bearings.

dude u got LUCKY.

my gates blue atom bombed into 2 sections and made my gates blue TB jump...killed my 272 & intake valves.

GO OEM......ditch the gates stuff.

check VFAQ for correct tension of the belt...it's 4-6mm deflection from REST to full deflection. mine is AWESOME now. I bet yours was too tight, thats what happened to me...well, my "buddy" did it the first time for me.

check the bearing...i had a tiny bit of play in/out, and it turned smooth. felt fine. redo that and phase the oil pump gear and you will be good to go man.

Right now, you should be considering a BSE. you got lucky the BS belt didn't ruin your timing belt and #### up your valves. Delete those silent shafts soon.

Here is the steps for a 1G, this will give you an idea of what you need to do.

I just removed my BS and I can hardly tell any difference in vibrations at all.

Quite literally just cut the belt. If you actually reverse the bearings, your oil pressure will rise and you'll have problems with over-oiling your turbo unless you install a restrictor. Not worth it IMO
