I have been using he gst as my dd and well it all the sudden started making some whooshing sound and no its not the BOV. The sound is a constant vvssshhh sound no ticking or clanking. I have good vacuum. The sound increases with the rpm's. I took the top cover off the timing cover and it looks to be tight even after not driving it for a few days. No shredding on the sides either, perfectly in the middle of the gears as well. I went to start it again after 2 weeks of sitting and it made the same sound except it started really roughly. Had to crank it for a min. and gave it some pedal then it started, but it idles fine. It has 146k miles now so im thinking its time for the t-belt etc. to be replaced. I just dont know what that sound is and none of the acc. belts are rubbing. Could it be a really bad exhaust leak? IDK

Do you think it might be the crank trying to walk it out? No pun intended. I will try to get a decent sound clip and video tomorrow. Thanks guys

Were in the engine compartment does the noise come from?? Can you make the noise happen with the hood open and someone hitting the throttle?

It sounds like its coming from the timing cover or behind there. Im going to get under the car tomorrow and tighten up everything its been a while since ive gone over everything. Im going to pull the plugs and check various things as well. Going to take the upper cover off to look again for a loose belt. You dont need 2 people to blip the throttle, its right there on the t-body under the hood, so yeah i guess i can, but why do you ask?
Any ideas guys?

With that many miles on the original water pump or it could be the crank dampener coming apart. If your going to do the timing belt its best to do the water pump while your at it. Take the timing belt cover off as it might be rubbing on that as well. Is the motor acting funny when you push the clutch in when standing still??

I had the t-belt & components replaced, w/p, seals etc, about 9X,000 miles. The belts arent rubbing. Ive checked the hb/cp but its still in good condition. The rpm's stay the same when i push the clutch as well. I cleaned her up and tomorrow i will get under the car and tighten things up. I know my slave cylinder is going out and has been for a while. I just top it off then go.

Well I've been driving the gst regardless of the new noise. I dont take it over 3k rpm's though. I havent noticed anything funny with the way the car acts/drives. It pulls boost hard but im not trying to push it. I just wanted to see if it would and what might happen. Which was nothing, it drove fine. I am getting things together for the service work.
