I just bought a 92 TSi last week and was talking to my neighbor, who has owned several Talons, about it. I told him the CBV flutters (not a constant swoosh) He says that this is not normal and means the valve is not releasing all the pressure and could kill my turbo.

The guy I bought it from used to have a front mount and left the controller at 18psi, but it maxes at 15 right now on stock IC pipes.

Is this normal or do I need to replace the BOV or just turn the boost down?

It could be either flutter, or compressor surge. They are very different things, but could sound similar.

It "flutters" at most boost levels, from 5 to 15 psi.
So how do I determine if it's compressor surge?

I guess it sounds like birds, but it's hard to describe. It's not high pitched, more of a hollow sound. Anyway, how could I be getting compressor surge with a small 16g? If it's not compressor surge could it be a faulty BOV, or the BOV hooked up incorrectly because the previous owner recently reinstalled the stock side mount and pipes.

Should I look into getting a different BOV, has anyone had this problem with their stock CBV? I've heard of aftermarket BOV's fluttering, but not stock 1g's. Thanks
