I bought the gauge brand new a few weeks ago.. but have yet to install it. First question is shouldn't it read 0 when off? At the moment it sits nicely at 200 deg. Second, the cord that goes from the sensor to the gauge isn't long enough. Can I just extend this with some nice wire that I have lying around?

How is the wire not long enough? I have about 3 to 4 coils of extra slack that I had to hide. They tell you in the manual not to trim or extend the wire because the guage is calibrated to that length of wire. My guage was also at 200 when I bought it. When i started it for the first time, It corrected itself

I can't find anything in the vfaq about extending the wire.

I figured the wire was kinda funky. I will check to make sure, but I don't think it's long enough. I just wanted to double check before I accidentially go hacking up the wires.

Ya on my Greddy gauge I had alot of extra slack.

don't alter the length of the wire. When I got my Autometer Egt gauge I installed it and cut the extra wire off, 3 weeks later I learn not to F with the length. I called autometer and told em the story and asked them what the deal was. They confirmed NOT to alter the length. They sent me a new one for free!!

btw, I noticed ZERO difference in the readings after switching to a full length wire, so go figure.

mine doesn't read "0" when it's off and it works fine

don't extend the wires, you'll mess up the readings. the autometer probe sucks anyway, so just get a new one (should come with 6ft. leads)

Don't touch the wire... got it.

Well, it was 55 deg F here today and the gauge it still reading 200... so I think it is slightly off :D I'll see what happens when I hook it up.

What do you mean the probe is crap? Autometer are the best guages on the market.. what is wrong with it? What do you suggest as an alternate probe then?

When I got my autometer EGT gauge, it wasn't reading zero either. Also now that's it's installed on my car, when I shut the car off, it doesn't always zero out. When you shut the car off (or in your current state) sometimes it gets a small glitch of power and the needle can spike and settle anywhere. This is common and nothing to worry about. If you want to zero out your gauge right now, go out to your car battery and touch the plus and the minus of the battery to the plus and minus of the gauge. It will hit zero instantly.

As far as other probes. I've also heard the autometer probes aren't that good. Mine seems to do O.K. But if I ever need to replace or upgrade, a ton of people recommend the tre probe; it's suppose to be one of the best.
