egt probe

where is the best place to put the egt probe?
i have seen some people put it in the manifold and some people put it in the downpipe. which one will give the correct reading and which one is safer?

you can use any Type K probe, such as one from TRE or Westach (they actually manufacter parts intended for use in airplanes)

put the probe in the #1 runner, distance from the head depends on the probe you use. the Westach probe I have says 4-8", although i've seen some 1" from the head. this will give you the most accurate reading

for the safest reading, put it in the downpipe. that way when the probe dies, pieces of the probe won't go into the turbo (possible, but not very likely). however, the readings won't be as accurate.
