What was my mechanic THINKING when he did this to my Delta II??

Engine is running strong, no problems. But during a 2hr drive, the wastegate took a crap. ^^those pics sort of explain why.. Haha.

Wont boost over 5psi, MOST all of the exaust pressure goes down the dump tube. Sounds like a lawnmower. It's staying garaged until the new gate arrives. Heh.

Luckily I havent paid him yet, so... I'm gettin a new TiAL on his dime. :)

Crappy part is, I lost to an S4 on the way home.

Note the new bolts holding wastegate -> mani.. the one on passenger side was a bit loose. When I went to tighten it, the head snapped off! Retapped both sides, replaced with new bolts.

and that's why i do all my work myself (well except for machinging and tranny rebuilds)

And even tranny's are easy to rebuild if you get up enough nerve to do it the first time. I don't let anyone lay a wrench on my car.

Yeh.. First and last.

Parents' mechanic. They wouldnt let me use Pro Street Industries, Bayside Transmissions, or Blacktrax as I'd wished, believing that this guy would do it faster and cheaper. Neither ended up being true.

Disassembling and then destroying my wastegate is not part of an engine rebuild (correct me if im wrong)

If he rebuilt your bottom end I would watch out. It probably won't last past breakin. :(

But it has! :thumb:

Got 846 on the engine now, sounds excellent, not burning any oil, no signs of leakages anywhere. Few questionnable choices as far as wiring harness routing, and some ignored brittle tubing, but I fixed all that up.

Update :::
Dad called the mechanic against my wishes. Mechanic says he will graciously pay to have turbonetics RECONDITION this tattered wastegate. Says it'll cost "like $50 bux." While it probably is cheaper to do it this way, its going to take ####ing forever!! He already took FOUR MONTHS to rebuild the engine, so now he expects me to leave the car garaged for at least one more!! And my dad is taking it in the ass! What a limpwrist!!

Pulled the wastegate off, took some more pictures. Whaddaya think Turbonetics will say when they see this abomination?? LoL

What exactly would they do? Replace the back, put in a new spring?

What spring should I get? Right now im only boosting up to 9psi but... it'll be in 15-20 range in the near future...

Called Turbonetics up and their tech guy told me that it'd take 1-2 days,,, and that they just... give you back a new one... LOL.

Also asked him about identifying the turbo...same thing, just measure the wheels compressor and turbine sides... =-\ So much fun!
