I've searched around for this but i've found nothing that could answer my question, so here goes.
I want to do a rewire for the fuel pump but also would like to do a battery relocation to the hatch area.
If I do the battery relocate can I just have a short wire hooking up to the battery from the fuel pump?
I didn't know if that would work because of the mpi relay and such.
Any info would be great thanks!

Brian

You can have a short wire going from the battery to the fuel pump rewire RELAY.

So, just to make sure I'm understanding correctly, wire up the fuel pump directly to battery and then rewire the relay separately with larger gauge wire?

You'll want a fuse between the battery and the pump.

You don't need to "rewire" the relay. You need to add one if you haven't already. Follow the rewire write-ups. The only difference is you will have a shorter battery wire.

I think you should familiar yourself with the workings and purpose of a relay before you do any sort of electrical work. It's not exactly hard to understand but it is essential before you do any sort of fuel pump rewiring.

I know a pretty decent amount about the system, i've learned quite a lot during this: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=223888 , about the electrical side of things.
I've taken almost a full bachelors degree worth of EE classes, I was just wanting to make sure of myself through the dsm community, main reason being I read up on some battery relocation articles and there was one that made special note that hooking up stereo equipment directly to the battery would allow unwanted noise into the system that would usually be filtered out by everything else, so I wanted to make sure that this noise wouldn't affect the pump. I wanted to see what others recommended as far as fuse sizes and such for our cars.

Thanks so much for all the info, i'll just keep to the articles.

xyexz;
All I did was relocate the MPI switch/fuse to the rear hatch area. I bought a marine battery box, 2ga. wire to run from the battery to the engine bay, 0ga ground wire, and mounted the MPI switch/fuse up by the rear strut bar. Then I ran 10ga wire from the battery, to the MPI, then from the MPI down to the fuel pump. Just spliced into the trigger wire under the hood, and ran that back to the MPI. It works great, havent had any issues yet, and now voltage drops at the pump.
