Does anyone know if there is a silencer made that will work with the THermal R&D exhaust...??? I have seen a few universal designs out there... but didnt know if anyone has tried it or not..?? Thanks in advance...

Do you mean resonator? Or do you want to add another muffler to the system?
Right now I have a thermal catback soon to get a megan DP and add a high flow cat.
Just the thermal alone sounds awesome nice and deep growl.

It can be done with a hack saw, file, marker, (2) T-bolt clamps, and a measuring tape. I used a 5" diameter Borla #40085 muffler. T-bolt clamps were used for fixturing, then I brought just the b-pipe and dropped it off at the welder, which was like $25. Worked out awesome:thumb:

If I ever do a full exhaust build for my STi, I'm gonna buy a cheap ass $100 arc welder and just use it for tack welding, then drop the entire exhaust off and have my welder do the full 360* seam welds.

I was talking about getting a removable insert silencer.... Something I can insert into the tip of the muffler for when I am daily driving... and remove when I don't need it anymore...

I've never seen or heard of a silencer for the thermal, but you can always measure and try others, or have your own one made.

Is there anything special to know if I get one made...?? or does anyone have a rough sketch of the deisgn..?? Thanks again..

I had a Greddy EVO and used an Apex'i silencer for it. The tip was about 4.5" so I used a 115mm silencer (listed for use with the N1). All I had to do was drill a small hole in the tip. Do you know how big the tip is on the Thermal? It looks to be around 5" and I'm not sure anyone (HK$, Apex'i) make a silencer of that size. The biggest I found was 120mm (about 4.7 in)

I jsut went and measured the tip.. it is slightly under 5in exterior dia of the tip... I could maybe get the 4.7in tip to work with some alteration... I'm not sure though...

if you figure something out, then let me know. I'd like to do something to quieten mine down for daily driving. Especially the way the police have gotten around here.

Since you are in Virginia Beach, you know exactly why I am looking for a silencer...!!!! If I could find a silencer to borrow, I would look into finding a fabricating shop in our area and let them make a few to fit our mufflers... but I've never even seen one other than on the internet... Maybe they would cut us a deal for a few of them instead of just one...

Does anyone know if when they sell a silencer stated at 120mm, is that the actual dimensions for the silencer...?? or the diameter of the exhaust tip it fits in..??

it's the diameter of the tip that it fits inside

not surprised. everytime I'm down there I run across tons of street ricers, I guess it was only a matter of time before they started cracking down (or whatever you want to call it)

The 120mm may be something worth looking into... 120mm = 4.72in... thats about the same as the inner dimension of the thermal exhaust tip... if I took that silencer and added a small ring of metal around it, it should slide right into the thermal tip... hmmmm.....
