Talons TSi (AWD) and Eclipse GSX 1G's, whats ALL the advantage/disadvantages about the '90-'91 apart from the '92-'94??? Problems, recalls, performance potential, EVERYTHING. Thanks

i heard 90-91 has better/stabler drivetrains!!!!!! not sure. the ones after that has a skrewed up drivetrain i heard.

90-91

pros
Always has a 6-bolt motor
Always has the better 3rd and 4th gear
Cheaper

cons
Always has older synchros that aren't as good
Always has a 3-bolt axle
90 has a bunch of weird sh|t that is different than any other year
Probably going to have more miles
Worse cams, worst on the 90s

92-94

pros
Most have 4-bolt axle
Most have updated syncros
Probably going to have less miles
Better cams, best on the 94s

cons
Most have have a stupid 7-bolt motor
Most have weaker 3rd and 4th gear

Questions

#1)Can I swap the synchros for newer ones, or just get the tranny rebuilt?
#2)Can I upgrade to a newer 4-bolt?
#3)Different like what?
#4)Can I swap these out for '94's or does HSK make cams for the '90-'91?

Thanks, sorry bout all the questions :D

1) yes
2) yes
3) different TB, different cruise control, different CAS, different ECU (more stuff I forget)
4) yes, HKS makes cams for the 90-91. It's not worth swapping to another set of stock cams from a different year, they aren't that different

92 is the best year DSM. If you get really lucky you can get all the goodies... 6bolt motor, big brakes, 4 bolt rear end, & the better 3rd/4th gear. As long as you stay w/ the early 92s (built in 91) then you'll at least get everything but the big brakes... which are also the easiest/cheapest to retrofit. Also almost every 92 thats I've seen has had an EPROM ECU.

I thought big brakes came in 93.5. Even those are still shitty, if you are serious about braking you would ditch the "little brakes" or the "big brakes"

"big brakes" w/ porterfield R4S pads actually work quite well.

I'm sure they work quite well in normal conditions but on a road course or even an AutoX they would still be a joke.

it's funny you guys think the brakes are so bad on these cars. the 91 i test drove yesterday felt great! but then again i am used to the breaks on my prelude and they are really really weak. even by honda standards.

My prelude's brakes were fine.. but then again, they were cross-drilled and slotted Brembo's with metal master pads ;) But I'd say everyone pretty much covered everything about the differences. 90's also have differently routed stock UICP and different trannys/(where the tranny cables are clipped on).

my car is a '91, and i believe its was manufactured in late. '90.

does that mean i have the "dual piston" biggest brakes in 1Gs? :p
