lookin for 9s country, Nevada
im getting an IM from JM fabrications next week and want some input on a throttle body choice. i plan to make 500 to the wheels on a 9.2to1 2.4, ported head (stock valves), fp2 cams, scm61, 2.5"intercooler piping in & 3" out, 3.5" exhaust, 880cc inj., etc. i have the option to get the flange for a mustang throttle body. my problem is i will lose the IAC and ill be running a vpc with cams and ill want it to idle. i guess the question is what horsepower gains can i expect from the larger throttle body and is it worth the potential hassles? thanks in advance for info.

From what I have heard the mustang's, accufab, Q45s, are PITAs to set-up, and work flawlessly. There are a few members on here making 500+hp on n/t TBs. If your planning on putting more power down then go with it, if 500 is what you want, I would go 1G n/t TB, thats what I will be going with.

70mm or 75mm?
Truely Paul, Matt (blackGSX2g? Ithink thats his s/n) did some kind of flange on his Magnus SMIM so a stock 1G TB could be used, and when that out grows its usfulness you could take the bolt on flange off, and through a 75mm TB in there. The 1G n/t TBs are good up to 500+hp, and roughly 33psi, I don't see you passing this yet, but it will be sweet if you do:D. Just an idea.

As far as TB I would recommend the Q45 90mm TB is you have a chance but the Accufab is a great TB as well.

The 1G N/T and Turbo are both 60mm, Just so you know...
Well not exatly the same, the inner diameters are a little larger on the N/T, but tappers down to the Turbo'd TBs inner diameter. Im currently looking right now for where I read it, but I read that a N/T TB will eliminate one more place for a leak to occur.
Paul I would do what Matt did so that way if you don't like the 75mm TB you can pop the flange on and throw a 1G N/T TB on there, or if you find you need to upgrade you could pull the 60mm in favor of a 75mm TB. Just my .02 Also if you want to get a little more flow you could sent the 1G TB out to FFWD, and have them recondition it, and bore it out to 63mm.
EDIT: Here it is...if you wade through most of the shit in it, you can get some decent info >>> http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=227241&highlight=N/T+throttle+body Post #26 has some good info in it, and also post #1 it states that the n/t Tb will get rid of the TB gasket. If anyone would lke to add to this that would be great to know that its 100%.

So the q45 is a skyline TB? And it bolts directly onto a 1g Intake Manifold? And the ISC plugs right in or do you have to do some wiring? What about the TPS sensor and Idle switch? Do those bolt right in?

Sorry I did an E-bay search and the q45 came up with the throttle body from an SR20.......

So basically this appication is for a custom Intake Manifold, for someone that knows there way around a sodering iron, and someone who is definaltly not a novice/beginner with their car modifications.

Then what about comparing the Accufab 3" Throttle body? With this application you completely remove the ISC, but does it bolt right up to a stock Intake Manifold or is this mean for a short runner manifold from Dejon or Mangus?

I wouldn't recommend either a magnus or dejon for the use of a Q45. It is a 90mm throttlebody (90mm/24mm/in= 3.75"). In my opinion with it being from an automobile manufacturer, better than some aftermarket TB with half a shaft bolted to the butterfly for support. There have been NUMEROUS issues with the accufab shaft snapping. I personally will be using a Q45 rather than an accufab when my next turbo upgrade takes place.

The Q45 throttlebody is from the Nissan Q45 which is a 4.5L V8. Thus its size. The TPS is not too difficult to solder to the oem wires of our TPS, but the ISC and FIAV are no longer used. Which means your idle is adjusted by a screw from there on out.

Okay, so since I got a buddy who rocks with a tig welder, get him to make up an intake manifold and match it to that throttle body. That doesn't sound so bad. Thanks for the 411.
