well today i finally got my car back with the TRE spec tranny and decided i should finally bolt on the RS60T i ordered from AGP a month ago.My first impressions were, Wow this is one big sucka,but anyways, i started at 9 am so i could hope to take it for a trip tonight, but was i wrong about it taking maybe like 5 hrs or so.
Everything was going fine drained the oils and fluids, removed the intake and maf sensor,got all my lines removed and went to take the DP off and had a bi*** getting it off, it seems the shop that put in my tranny last night impact wrenched my DP nuts so i had to wait and get penetrating oil to help loosen the nuts, and finally got them off., now it was time to take my manifold off so i could put on my ported manifold , and so the mission began, first i noticed that one stud to the head that holds the manifold was broken, but i said oh well, ill fix it later on, so i decided to start tightening my nuts onto the studs to put the manifold back on, it just so happens i broke a stud, so it was off to the local hardwre store to pick up a tap and die set and some titanium/nitride coated drill bits, luckily i also have a spare head from which to remove replacement studs from. ok now is when i get , get home fix the prob get the manifold on an start to put the turbo on, clock it so the return line matches up fine, run the feed line and postion the turbo so i could run the i/c pipe from the turbo to the i/c, now is the worst part of all ,the turbo is so big that when i go and start screwing the bolts thru the manifold and into the turbo, the turbo hits the water line from the car,(ill attach pics for those of you to see, but be patient til like monday), so i clock the turbo some more,finally get it good and bam the fan, shroud/support is in the way, really starting to be pissed off,, so clock it some more and what do i find, the only way for me to finish is to have a front mount made for me tomorrow because i didnt get the 90 degree elbow welded on so i cant run th turbo off my stock side mount, really pissed me off because before i ordered the turbo i told them my setup, which was a 16g so i asked if i should get the elbow and i was told dont worry, now i am unable to drive til tomorrow when i fix this mishap, anyways i will let evetone know whats up, after i get her running right,.,, has anyone else had any probs installing their own rs49 or 60( clocking the turbo, turbo hitting hard water line near block, etc, lemme know.. thanx.
 
Big turbo's require denting the water line to make them fit, Slim line fans also help big turbo fitment issues.

I have the rs49t so I would like to subscribe and hear the replys.
 
ah that would explain the water line issue but still im mad bout having to mod it at all it should be bolt on not bolt on and fabricate/dent/trim something thats in the way, anyways, im gonna fix it in like 8 hrs so gotta go sleep. ill post my finished project later
 
Most people shouldn't start out with a 60. I probably shouldn't even be running what I have.
 
The "bolt on" refers to bolting onto the stock manifold, nothing else, as a garrett or turbonetics 60-1 would normally come with a different turbine husing that would require a diferent manifold and 02 housing. A little research would let you know what you would need for that turbo.
3" exhaust. A 2.5" would work but not the best.
minimum 650cc injectors if you plan to boost to an 18PSI or higher range where the 60-1 likes to run. Fuel control. logging capabilities.
I have the RS60T, great turbo. you can check my mods. You will need a FMIC and a good one. Done right and it will spool almost like an EVO3. mark

You can buy a silicone elbow instead of having an elbow welded on so you will retail the versatility of having the elbow face either direction for different FMIC's. The FMIC will present it's own challenges unless you buy a tailored kit with the proper piping.

Well, if you need a quick temporary fix on the Ellbow problem, head over to Lowes (Hardware) and they sell these Copper looking 90 degree 2.5'' (i think they're copper) elbow that has some form of flare that along with a coupler (they have those too) should work out for you without blowing off. Then you can just replace with a silicone elbow later.
 
well i got it done last night at 7pm, it was a long and tiring hasle, but i finally came up with a solution, the water/coolant return line for the turbo the the block has this extremely long ass nut that attaches the line to the block so i just removed the line and plugged it with a shorter plug, i didnt think i could do that, then it was all straight forward i adjusted the turbo how i wanted it and got my wastegate welded to the manifold, tomorrow im heat wrapping it all, oh yeah btw, ive already accumulated 450miles , i had a long road trip hehe to help break in my tre tranny and 60-1, let everyone know how it all turns out and ill post piccs 2morro, peace out alll and thanx for all the help
 
see the whole difficult thing was because of (tmizers last pic- )the blue bolt on the block near the screw for the turbo was too long to allow me to position my turbo how i needed it
