I thought I would try to make my car a bit quieter but its seems to run bad with the apexi silencer in there.Even my idle seemed to be hunting.Maybe I have to tune things with the silencer in there. The car seems to rev very poorly also and maybe my imagination but the turbo spools up slower too I think.I guess these turbo cars really hate back pressure.Anyone else notice this type of thing when you installed the silencer in your exhaust system?

I just took mine out the other day and had to reset my idle to make it run better. However im really glad i took it out. The turbo spools better and faster and just wants to keep pulling for ever. I wish i pulled it out sooner. However when mine was in the car did run better with a little back preasure. I dont know why but it just did.

That might be a good thing.A bit pricey. But does that one fit my apexi n1 not sure what the tip size is..Guess have to measure. Thanks for the link.. :)

Yeah it fits. It works great imho. I got it for like $140. Beats having a ticket from the Cali cops. They can't pull me over because I am under db limit.

what is the point of modding your car and putting a sweet exhaust system like the n1 on it, :thumb: and then put that silencer in there. it takes away performance plus the nice sound it makes. quieter? :shhh: unless your working at a retirement home, then there is no need for quiter.

if you have the money apex has a silencer with new tech that does not take away from your power. a silencer works by resericting some flow to mello down the sound that could be why you are having problems.

They just had an article on silencers in the latest issue of Dsport. They tested one on a 500whp Skyline and lost 200hp and 9psi of boost by putting the silencer in. Just to give you an idea of what a silencer can do to a turbocharged car. Its definately a restriction. Its basically like having a 3 inch exhaust going into a 2 inch muffler.

The link above is new from apex. Silencer is ok for daily driving, but take it out before you go play.

whoa! and to think, i almost bought a silencer the other day to help keep the po away. forget it, ill just stay off the throttle when im around a cop. besides i think my idle db level is below the legal ammount.

hence the reason it's called a silencer.... it cuts down sound by restricting exhaust flow

It's a tradeoff really, people generally put on the silencers for long highway trips from what I've seen.

increased backpressure increases EGT's, right? (correct me if this is inaccurate) But, if thats true, then my friend blew his rx7 doing 120 because of the silencer in his Ractive 3". Or, i would say to just uuhh...get a QUIET, well flowing muffler? Possible maybe, yeah? I have an Edelbrock 5525. Its reasonably quiet and doesnt restrict flow that i can notice, the car still pulled the same on stock boost before the exhaust went on. :shhh:

that's what I used to do. it sucked, though, when you get this ricers pulling up next to you and you have that thing plugging up your exhaust so you can't get away from them as fast as you typically would be able to. didn't really matter a whole lot though, since I never felt like bothering with them after hours of driving.
