i have had my FIC 650 cc injectors for about 4 months now. when i switched out my rc 550's, the 650s flare at the end and wouldnt fit in the head with those plastic orings that are in the head. realizing that the 650's came with rubber grommets on the end stems (where they go into the head) i figured those would seal properly with the fuel rail tourqued down properly and all three fuel rail mouniting isolators in place. so i went ahead and removed all four plastic orings in the head. to make a long story short i have had no problems to this day with leaking fuel......or have i?

i have never felt any studder under boost. never get the smell of fuel under boost. after some hard runs, if i were to pop the hood, there would be zero fuel anywhere around the injectors. this leads me to believe that the injectors are sealing correctly and not leaking under boost.

on the other hand the head is so hot under normal operating temp. that any mispelt fuel would instantly burn off especially if it was a little leaking out. so theyre would be no way to tell. doing a boost leak test would also not yield accurate results as if they were leaking cause the air you force into the ic pipes/turbo and such does not flow into the head.

upon searching around the engine performance forum as i always do i have stumbled across a couple threads debating wether or not these injectors will leak with the factory plastic orings removed. because once again the 650;s will not fit with them in place in the head. some guys have said that therey leak some have said that they will not. some have personal experiences where the injectors sprayed fuel out under boost some say they are fine. the only real way to find out that i can think of is to have someone rev the car up while u spray brake clean/ carb clean at the tips of the injectors cause if they are leaking the car will start to run like crap and most likely stall out. or u guys with your automatics can brake tourque at a stand still building some boost while someone sprays that crap in there.

all in all i wish we could find a final answer for this. im gonna experiment with this myself and try and figure out if mine have been leaking all along, hindering performance. u guys with REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE ON THIS SUBJECT please lend me your thoughts. thanks a bundle :dsm: :thumb:

well for one, those arent supposed to be plastic, its rubber thats gotten hot so many times its turned to plastic....now, when you do a boost leak test it DOES go into your head...i found mine to be leaking because they were plastic and not sealing...however i just have stock injectors and mine fit....im not sure what to tell you on that but for checking, a boost leak test will tell you if your injector seals are leaking

I'm not really sure what you're talking about. I've had FIC 650s for about 4 months also. They came with rubber gaskets on the spray end and o rings on the feed end and everything fit and sealed perfect. I've been doin boost leak tests lately trying to track down a leak at the throttle body but the injectors seal fine.

I guess I just don't understand what "flare" doesn't fit. Here's a picture of mine exactly how I installed them, maybe you could point out what part you removed and what part doesn't fit into the boss on the head.

and that is exactly how mine came and how i installed them. and they are not leaking. there should be little o rings in the head for the factory injectors to seal up. i took them out cause the very tip of the 650's is flared. and installed the injectors just as yours are shown. the side with the green oring and grommet goes into the rail, the other end that is flared and has the rubber grommet goes into the head.

What's an injector sheet?
Does this only apply to 2g heads?

Sorry for the resurrection, but I am about to buy these injectors (94 TSi).

Normally it's the spacer between the injector body and the fuel rail but it looks like they put them where the insulator normally would go.

No, the 1G and 2G heads are the same when it comes to injector mounting.

There's more about injector sheets in the archives. Searching is fun :)
