Thinking about building a 6 bolt - am I on the right track?

Alright guys, Im trying to sell my GST and am going to be driving my GS for a while. I was planning on saving up to buy a 97-99 GSX with the stock 7 bolt, and keeping it pretty stock because I couldnt be able to afford the payments plus mods. I started looking on dsmtrader and found a few with blown engines, so I thought I could throw a 6 bolt in it for cheaper than I would pay for a running one with a 7bolt. I was originally planning on just getting the block from a yard and throwing it in, with no rebuild or anything. Now Im almost certian I am going to rebuild it before It goes into the GSX.

My goals for my car all depend on what it comes with for mods and how much I have to pay for it. Right now It seems like 5500 with some basic mods is a price Ive seen the most. I would like the block to be able to hold 600hp, since I have a feeling Ill keep her for a while. I might only get to 400 or so, but I dont want to get to 450 and then have to tear the engine apart and build it then. I figure if its out now, I might as well do it right the first time.

Heres what I am thinking of:

Eagle "H" Connecting Rods - Maybe Scat rods?
Ross 8.5:1 Pistons
Balance Shaft Elimiator Kit
Clevite Main and Rod Bearings
SI Dual valve springs with Manley Performance titanium retainers
SI Bronze Valve Guides

Am I going to need a new crank and camshafts?
What about head studs?

Are there cheaper alternatives to what I listed above? For instance, Scat intead of Eagle rods? I want to keep this as cheap as I can (naturally) but I dont want to regret something in the future. Also, Im taking a "loan" to do this, so its now or in 3 years when I pay it off.

Im not real knowledgable about engine internals, so I hope you guys can guide me.
Is there any good books out there that I can get a much better feel for this? Ive been reading up on here, but theres not much to go by visually.

Ive learned a hell of a lot from this site over the past week, more than I thuoght I would know about doing this. Hell, I never thought Id even think about building an engine. Anyways, thanks for any advice you guys give me, I do appreciate it.

Edit: This is going to be my daily driver. Ill get a AFC to control the fuel and boost, not sure on the turbo I hope to go with eventually.

I owuld go with crower or pauter rods if you have a 600hp goal just to be on the safe side. Also if you want that much hp you are going to need the change the head studs to some ARP's and the camshafts to some HKS 272's or something similar.

Eagle rods... well... won't hold near that HP. Lets just leave it at that. :thumb:

well look at spending about 2500 on that short block alone doing it rite. I would be alittle more realistic with your goals or you will never finish the motor to run it. It happens every day with young guys with high hopes and little funding just keep that in mind.
Well if you want a step above the 1g big rod the eagles are a good choise along with eather wiseco or ross pistons at a 8.5:1 ratio.
I would highly recomend having a pro builder that knows the 4g63s build the short block. Its a smart investment and there is no guess work.
I would look into having magnus,BR,SBR,or BJs cylinder heads build you the short block. They know what works and stand by there work. You can get a stage 2 SB for 2500 built ready to go.Stage 2 head will run you 1300 complete. You really dont save that much money doing it all yourself in the long run.

i think your somewhat on the right track.... If your a little behind on the internal aspect of things i would sit down and do alot of reading before you just "jump" into something. Like someone mentioned above, take a look at some of the DSM shops staged build ups and see if any of those setups happen to catch your eye or appeal to your wallet. i know you probably already thought this over but dont spend to much money in one area and leave yourself screwed for the other supporting mods when it comes time to put the engine in. Good luck
