ok so i went out and bought an AWD turbo 91 talon.
well i drive it off the lots and it makes a ton of racket and i have NO BRAKES.
turns out that on of the rotors had split in two. now that i have new brakes on it it stops fine but IT DOESNT BOOST. i took the turbo inlet pipe off and i can spin the impellor very easily so im wondering if i am missing something?
the boost gauge is pinned over 1.0 ALL THE TIME. (even idling)
this car is just way to slow as it is right now.

Please help me.

Does it have an aftermarket boost guage? If so and it stays at the same spot all the time then maybe the line that runs it fell off or has a hole in it. If the turbo spins freely but the car feels like it doesn't boost then you should do a leak test. Check the VFAQ for help. http://vfaq.com/mods/ICtester.html

is your wastegate hooked up? i bought a 93 talon tsi and the guy said it jsut won't boost no matter what i do, i looked under the hood and started laughing, so i got a awsome deal on the car!

i dont even hear the turbo spool up though.
would a cracked turbine housing cause this? i dont know if it is cracked or not. i just dont want to take the turbo off if i dont have to.

another thing the boost gauge. what would make it just pin up on the top of the gauge all the time. the only time the needle moves is when i shut the car down.
the is the stock boost gauge and i realize that i can just put an aftermarket one in but i still want this one to work...

what is the input for the MPI control unit for boost? i know the MPI control unit controls the gauge but im not sure what input gives it that information... is it the MAF or is there a MAP sensor somewhere in there that i just cant find? im sorry i just want to get my AWD boosting so i can take it out and have some fun. it isnt very much fun right now.

i will do the leak test as was suggested above but i really dont think that the turbo is spooling... i only think that because i cant hear it. thanks :laser:

oh and by the way the wastegate is hooked up. i unhooked it and made sure it was closed and everything. it moves freely and is in the closed position when i hook the actuator rod up. am i wrong to think that since my turbo spins free it should boost....?

DO NOT look at the stock boost guage. It DOES NOT read boost. All it does is make a guess based on RPM and airflow. Get an aftermarket one and hook it up to see if the thing actually is making boost. Second if the car is completely stock and doesn't have a hacked aircan or open element filter then you would be hard pressed to hear the turbo spool. If the thing spins freely then yes it shoud boost. Hook up an aftermarket boost guage and leak test the thing, I bet you find some that you didn't know about.

hooked up my autometer gauge and it reads 18 in of vac at idle but at a hard pul in first second an third i have absolutely no boost.

well. if it should boost then i gues i must have a huge leak.

youd think youd hear a leak that big but....
ill check. damn this sucks.

Where is the guage teed into? It might be at a port that only sees vacuum and not boost. Try hooking it up to the fuel pressure solenoid. Does the car buck when under heavy acceleration? Like it's normal until boost should hit and then slows down and` pops out of the exhaust?

I can almost guarantee you the arm that holds the wastegate shut has popped off.

There a little cotter pic that holds it on and mine rusted through and the arm popped off allowing the wastegate to blow open thus not allowing me to build any boost.
