I have prettu much maxed out my 14b turbo with the help of DSMJIM so I am at a cross roads as to where to go in the turbo direction. My goal is to hit a 13.0 flat or under but I don't need much under a 13.0 would be great though. I took a ride in Jim's car friday with the T3/T4 and now Im really hooked not to mention its 12.5 seconds! So I am tring to decide between the turbo's in the topic I hear some guys saying the 14b to the 16g isn't worth the gain and others that say it is. I don't have any info on the 20g and the t3/t4 is another option I am leaning heavily towards. I want a daily driver and If possible for a short peroid of time I want to stay with my 550's and SMIC to save up a bit of cash. Should I be able to run a 20g or t3/t4 wtith stock smic on low boost for a month or so?

Also is the 16g as bad as guys say because I have a few posts from dsm talk that have guys with auto's like mine and similar mods in the low 12's with them?

Any info and experience you guys have is appreciated.

if you only want 13.0 just get a 16g. its cheap and you will probably make your goal

KPT then what mods do I need to add to get that goal?

I agree that you should be able to hit 13.0 on a 14b. Looking at your mod list, what would help you reach your goal:
Testpipe - ditch the cat and you'll get better spool up and several whp.
fmic
660cc injectors - Will get you more timing in a 2g car
18, 19psi of boost - The front mount will help here.

What are you currently running with awd and the 14b?

Have never run at the track but went for a ride in a 12.5 second talon and mines not even close! I have the cat but its gutted so its basically a test pipe. Im hitting 18PSI at wot and holding it with the 14b with perfect timing and EGT's. Im hitting 21*timing at shift and it ramps back up to 18-19 each gear very quickly. The auto drops timing to 0* at the shift so my log line is just a nice even curv down up down up coming back on very fast and strong.

I have my exhaust as 2.5" from the turbo back with gutted cat so there is little to no restriction spoolup was increased greatly with the gutting of the cat I did that friday night :thumb: what a PITA to get a rusted cat off though took me like 3 hours on my back under my car.

I also find it very hard to believe I can hit my goal with the 14b when a car with alot bigger turbo front mount bigger injectors exhaust running 20 psi with a stick and studder box magnus intake 1g TB is .5 seconds faster then my goal and my car feels nowhere close and is tuned by the same guy running that MPH. Also riding in his car it feels about 100x faster!

Ive decided Im going t3/t4.

Forget about the turbo upgrade for now untill you have all of the other support mods done. Get some 660cc injectors, FMIC, S-AFC, and get rid of those Autometer gauges. The EGT probe is soooo slow compared to others on the market. 13.0 is very possible on a 14b with all the other mods and a good launch. I ran 13.5 on my 14b but that was with no real tuning at all.

I haven't updated my profile for a while I already have injectors and an AFC I don't need one. IC in on the way as well just not in the budget at the moment I also want to set it straight I want to do the 13.0 on PUMP gas as my street car not some super tuned car on race gas squeezing every last morsle of power from the 14b Im sure its possible to go fast and achieve my goal on race gas but no way on pump which is why Im going to a T3/T4 Jims car cuts 12.5's on PUMP gas and that is what I want a pump gas car that is a super street killer.

i still think you can make 13.0 on a 14b or a 16g. my buddy ran a 13.1 on a full weight 16g powered 2g with absolutely NO FUEL upgrades.

dude people are running low 12's on 2g's with 16g's. if you only want 13's you can get that with an auto. its your car so best of luck with whatever you go with :thumb:

I'm currently running a 20g with smic. Bought my car basically stock with a 16g and my best quarter was only 14.3. Blew up my motor bad and ruined the turbo in the process. Bought the 20g and have been pleased with it's performance! Only issue I'm having is the hard hit. Comes on at about 3,200rpm and as long as I stay in it she smacks and holds 17psi of boost! At that point I'm spinning thru 1,2,and part of 3rd gear. With the internal wastegate, rolling into it limits me to 13psi. Still new to this myself, so I'm learning too. What I can tell you from past experience is that the smic is great for road, not so much for drag! My runs got progressively worse due to heat soak with the smic.

Incredibly fascinating to see how far we’ve come though. 12’s on a 14B in an awd Auto 1G is a cakewalk and probably the easiest thing in the world to do. Lol.

God we’ve come a long way. Kinda cool to see.

I remember the kind of mod list you had to have to do 12.0 on an evo3 back then, and it usually required meth injection to boot :thumb:

Compared to when I bought my first DSM and now, it's incredible that you can go on a variety of different shop's websites, put in a reasonably inexpensive order, and have a car that runs 12.0 on pump gas reliably.

20g's used to be "race only" 🤣
