how to mod your internal wastegate

Too much boost...time to mod your wastegate.

I own a turbo 420a, and am running a Garrett T3 Super 60 Trim with internal wastegate. The wastegate is set for like 10psi, yet I always would spike more than that upwards of 15 pounds when I would decide to let off the gas. Now that is definitely too much for my stock internals and injectors, so the problem had to be fixed. If you've read GSGoinFast's tech article, then you saw his similar wastegate mod. We both have the same idea of modding the wg for lower boost, but I managed to have it done without any cutting or welding required.

1. Unthread the end of the arm off
2. Take a washer and slide it down the arm up against the actuator
3. Slide your spring down the arm and seat against the washer
4. Put another washer on the arm on the top side of the spring
5. Use the nut that's for holding the end of the arm to thread down towards washer
6. Tighten that nut down against the washer/spring to desired stiffness
7. Now you can thread the end of the arm back on and you're good to go.

Seems to easy to be true, but that's it. Now of course, my actuator arm is made in two pieces and is threaded already...if yours is different, then you'll have to modify the steps accordingly (ie. using tap/die set for threads). After this simple modification, my boost gauge has yet to go over 10 pounds again, and I'm running right on ~9psi with no spiking whatsoever. I haven't messed around with adjusting the tension on the spring too much yet to see how it affects the amount of boost. I'm thinking of adding another half of a spring in order to lower the boost even more, so that I can actually use my homemade boost controller...but I'm in the current mood of: if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If I do decide to pull it off and mess with it some more, I'll also take extra pics to put on here.

The spring I got came in a two pack, clear plastic with yellow label.
