Pull the plastic shroud off the column. Remember the wheel tilts for better access to remove the top half.
Put the key in the ignition, turn to ACC.
With a Phillips screwdriver or nail or similar, push in on the button in front of you. It's the only shiny thing on the casting, and it's aiming straight at your heart. About 1/8" diameter.
Pull the lock straight out.
To install the new one, put the key in, turn to ACC, and just press in.

If you manage to burn up an hour doing this, you will need to hire assistance to change batteries in a flashlight.

Most crucial: TRACK DOWN THE BRAINLESS BASTARD WHO USED TO HANG A BOAT ANCHOR OFF THE KEY RING, AND KILL THEM.

Always run your ignition keys NAKED, and always carry two of them.

Steering column install, help needed.

So I'm installing the new steering column this weekend. When I opened the box I saw that the new column has the ignition housing but not the whole lock part you turn with the key. I was wondering if anyone knew how to remove it from the old one and install it on the new one. Just the lock, not the whole ignition housing, because i guuess they have those wierd rounded bolts that you have to drill out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Those screws are security screws whose heads snap off when torqued-in. You can either slot them with a Dremel, or chase them out with a chisel. They aren't necessarily hard to take out, they just take time.
See above for ignition lock.
