I have an old pair of Blaupunkt 6.5" speakers and when i tried to install them in my 1993 eagle talon ES non-turbo, they don't line up. The speaker's bolt pattern is too small.

Next, i ordered adapter brackets HERE and my speaker is just a bit too large for this.

Do typical 6.5" speakers bolt right in to 1g rear brackets, and i have a pair of odd speakers?

SOLUTION:

The speakers were a bit odd. I picked up a pair of new Sony Xplod 6.5" 4-way speakers and used the adapter linked above and it was able to work using the supplied screws and nut plates. If you buy speakers that say 6.5" and 6.75" mounting, it may fit on a round rear bracket without an adapter, but these sonys were only 6.5" mounting so i needed the adapter to bolt them to my brackets.

The base isn't sick (what'd you expect from a 6.5"!?) but they have good clarity and sound quality. I'm pleased.

The holes in my rear brackets are round with a 6.75" screw mounting circle. I expected a 6x9" speaker bracket to be oval shaped...

Yes, the 6x9 is more oval than anything, with your adapter, if you have the tools t can be made out of MDF, you can also try sanding the inside of the current adapter if its as close as you say. Best of luck!
