I was wondering if any has ever put a gauge for the temp of the weather?
I Think i will take out the cig lighter and put something like that in there.
It would be something new hmm.
What do you think?
Where could i get a gauge like that?

My Infiniti came with one. It uses a sender mounted in the shade behind the grille, ahead of the radiator. All you'd need is a thermistor, the circuit, and a display. Or, just pick up one from Wal*Mart for six bucks, over by the stereos turned up too loud on the shit station, by the cupholders, electric compasses and "BACK OFF" mudflaps.

So i can get all this stuff at Wal*Mart for real cheap?

Here are some pics I just snapped out in the garage:

Since my car has a sunroof, the maplights were built in to the rear view mirror. I added an actual domelight with dual maplights instead of the crappy rear view maplights...pulled from a late model Ford:

The mirror works great...when bright lights shine on it the mirror tints a dark blue.

I got the mirror from JC Whitney, I don't have the part number handy at the moment.

You only really need to hook up a constant and switched power wire, and a ground. Since the power wires for the stock map lights are constant, I just used that. I also used the ground wire up there to ground the unit. For switched power, I ran the wire down the A-pillar and down to the fuse box.

Then run the wire for the outside temp sensor. I put the sensor in the front passenger side air dam on the front bumper with a shield behind it to block ambient heat from the engine at idle. It's fairly small so you really can't even see it unless you run right up to it.

The kit also comes with a UV sensor that is made to mount in an empty license plate bolt hole, but I thought it looked tacky and I have no desire to monitor UV rays so I switch that off.

The auto-dimming function is automatically active when the light sensor senses that it is dark out. You can also program it to dim the display when it is in 'night mode'.

Once everything is hooked up, follow the included directions to calibrate the compass.

I would have put together a tech article back when I installed it if I had thought there would be any interest, but I searched the boards for awhile on advice for doing this and found nothing, so I figured it wouldn't be that popular. It's just kinda been my goal to have a luxurious interior with this car to compliment it's raw performance.

I really don't want to rip everything apart to take pics of the wires and install, but I would be glad to help out any way I can.

EDIT: here is the link

Nope, no need that was plenty helpful and thanks. I do think this should be a tech article because there has already been more than one member in this thread that asked about it including myself. Anyway, that's a good upgrade.

How the hell do those work, anyone know?

There is an ambient light sensor on the front of the mirror that tells it when to engage the dimming function. It then activates the rear facing light sensor. When that sensor picks up light bright enough to set it off (i.e. those damn trucks and their headlights that aim right into my eyes). It dims using electrochromic gel between two pieces of glass in front of the mirror...when it's activated the gel reduces the reflectivity of the mirror.

I wonder if you could pull all that stuff off of a junkyard car. Even if there was a bit of work involved it would cost far less than the J.C. Whitney system. That's a real cool idea though

i was thinking of going down to the junk yard too.
I would look to see if they have any vans and pull it from there.
In my van it reads the temp and the the way you are going like n,e,w,s,etc...

The junkyard method will work just fine. I actually picked one up with the sensors, but the backlight was green and didn't match my interior. I'm picky about that, and I wanted something that was blue to match my blue LED backlights and gauges, so the only way was aftermarket. If you don't care about matching, then by all means go to a junkyard and spend the $20 and get what you want.

see that is the thing my light where it says prnd12 is green
where the gauges are it is orange.
Only if i knew how to change that green light to a orange light.
that would be nice if all the lights were one color.

Damn! How did no one point out Black2gsx's friggin' incredible interior. Don't get me wrong, that mirror is nice... but all the custom work on the interior looks awesome. I'm trying to convert my all grey interior to something luxurious and clean, but not the same old all plain black look. Great Job!! :thumb:
