What's wrong with not putting a cover on it?

i always thought if you dont have the cover on it, then if their is play in the belts or anything else its not good. i think dirt can get in somehow to but im not sure.

A lot of people run their cars without the cover. Especially those guys with them huge cam gears.... cover wouldnt fit.

i just think if the cover was originally on the car then it serves a purpose. their has to be some negative effect by not having it.

yes
if gravel or some #### is slinged up into your engine bay and manages to get high enough to land in there, it will most likely snap your timing belt, racking up an instant $2g repair.

that being said, there is a very small chance of that happening, and when the cover is off you can inspect your tbelt's tension and wear more frequently.

choose.

if you choose not to use your cover (i don't, and no problems), make sure and have a spark plug well cover, because your wires can bounce around and your timing belt can cut one in half. i know from experience. it's a pain to buy $70 plug wires every couple of days.

alot of people keep the cover on but cut out enough space to veiw and adjust the cam gears anyways thats what ive seen the reason the cover is there is to keep dirt out

the damn cam gear cover was hiding a HUGE a$$ leak i have in my valve cover gasket...it wasn't until i started to replace it on a hunch that i found it...

i keep mine on but check it every now and then

Aftermarket cam gears are the same size as stockers--they have to be due to belt pitch and timing reasons.

I run mine without a cover and I agree, I have found some bad oil leaks when a seal on the front engine lets go. My only concern is the hood liner falling down and abrading it. I will be making a CF one at some point--I'll post pictures when I get one made.

the plexiglass idea that siueclipse has sounds cool. i never thought about it, but it would keep all the crap off the belts, show off your gears, and you could still see leaks. i bet that wouldnt cost but just a few bucks as long as the person knows what they are doing. i like the idea myself...

im going to call around and see if there is any place that can fabricate something like that, but i bet it wont be cheap

I can make you something like that.

But, all I did was cut the sides of the cover off. the exact same size as the cam gears. that way there is still some protection.

PM me your idea, i'll see if I can think of a way to make it, and have it look nice.

you guys are talking about the plastic cover right????, not a custom made plexi cover??????

cause if you were doin the stock one cut out, that would be easy... im pretty shure you could do it yourself
