I'm thinking of doing some carbone fiber parts on my car. Nothing crazy, a hood, mirrors and possibly a rear hatch. I have seen pretty much every carbon fiber hood and mirror setup for the 2g but, the hatch is another story. Here is a link to one:

What I would like to know is if there is anyone here with first hand knowledge and experience with this piece. Simple questions like:

How was the fitment?
Does the glass fit fairly good when put back in?
Any leakage?
Any downsides?

I appreciate any information that can be given on this subject. Also, if anyone would happen to have any pictures of this installed on another car that woudl be great.

After reading that I am not too keen on doing this after all. It was just someting that I was throwing around. My car is not a show car by any means I was just looking for something to do this year. I guess I will just stick to buying recaro seats and leave the exterior looking stock and sleeper like. Thanks again for the information.

A local buddy of mine is in the process of installing a GT Fab hatch on his 2G. Fitment to the car is great. But he's have a hell of a time trying to figure out the best way to attach and seal his formed polycarbonate window to the hatch. I'll snap a couple picture next time I'm out at his shop.

One other thing that was mentioned in that thread was the color of the car that it would be going on. Someone mentioned that if this hatch was going on a black car (or another car of darker color) it would be fine but, on other colored cars (lighter colored) it would look off a bit. I agree with this unless the car is a full out show car. My car is durrango copper and since nothing else on the exterior of the car is different from oem I think I will just keep what I have on there. I would still be interested to know on the overall fitment of your friend hatch 99gst_racer.

You are welcome. You probably did a search for 'carbonfiber hatch' instead of 'carbon fiber hatch'. I agree with you unless your car is black, carbon fiber looks a bit off.

Im pretty sure most hte weight in the hatch is in the glass itself, probably would be much more beneficial to get some plexi or light weight glass inthere instead. If you are going for pure aesthetics, you oculd get it, then paint sections of it to match the car and leave some of the carbon fiber exposed, like just the lid itself, or just the center section that is equal to the roof width, and finish it off with a combat style spoiler with the center section painted black (like an evo)? just some thoughts

Theres a guy on here that actually i guess works for a company his car is in one of hte pics you linked. his tuners name is project2g ask how it fits. he might even be able to hook you up with a decent price. last i saw he just installed CF fenders

I've had my cf hatch on for over a year now, fitment was a little off but all in all, I'm satisfied with the product (GT Fabrications). I re used the stock glass and had no problems or leaks. Had to re cut the holes for the panels, never put the rear wiper/motor, defroster, or squirter back on. If my pics aren't on this site any more then you can see them at http://www.ratemydsm.com/member/JeffTSi/?member=JeffTSi .

I think going cf hood/hatch will only look good if the roof is black or cf.

The hatch has a perfect fitment. My fenders were not perfect.
