Had my boost gauge in for a while but never bothered to wire up the backlight. Not being able to see it at night is getting annoying so i'm going to finally hook it up today. I know there's a ground right under the carpet on the drivers side but where can I splice into a power source? A lot of people have mentioned the cigarette lighter. Where exactly do I gain access to it? Or is there somewhere even easier? I'm really bad with electronics so any help to make things easier would be GREATLY appreciated.

And NO, I DO NOT want to have it spliced into the dimmer switch :shhh:

Just find your fuse panel and pull the fuse for your interior lights or any light for that matter, wrap the wire around the end of the fuse, stick that bugger back in and when you turn on what ever light that is at night...then poof, youg boost gauge lights up...i know on a 1g its down by your left foot, not sure about a gr-4, best thing, no splicing....you can get fancy with this too, but thats up to you, i think they actually make clips that go into a fuse slot to allow for a wire to be added. I have seen them before, wish I would have asked where they found it.

FYI, mine are tapped into my fog light relay..i think, its been awhile. push the fog light switch and there it is, light

So you don't want the backlight to come on with your parking/head lights? When do you want it to come on then?

You have a few options:
find a wire that has switched power(when you turn the car on)
find a wire that comes on with your parking/head lights
wire it into a switch so you can control when it comes on

there is a green and white wire under the kick panel that we usually run too for a source. I like the dimmer switch because the light will only be one when you turn the rest on.

either way good luck with the install. Let us know if you need anymore help.

No. I simply don't want or need it to be able to dim. Any switched power source would be fine. I like flyinghigh's idea though. That sounds quite simple. And the box is indeed at my feet just like on a 1G :D

I did just what Martin was suggesting. The gauge does not dim with the dimmer switch. Rather, it turns on when I turn on the running lights or headlights. It works perfectly, and is easier than you think. When you're sitting in the driver's seat, just look to the left of the steering wheel and you'll see the dimmer. Just pop that panel out (be careful not to break any clips) and splice into the power wire (green and white if I remember correctly). Depending on where your boost gauge is, you can run the wire down and to where the pedals are, then back up to the dimmer, pulling out slack as needed. Good luck!
