well i'd been looking for some good headlights for awhile but the best i've seen is $200 a piece for new ones so i decided "screw them all to hell!! i'll do it myself and i'll do it better !!"
i started off with a spare set of headlights out of my gf's wrecked 93 awd (rip
) , a pair of 9006 sylvania silverstar headlights, and some 3m fine polishing compound that i applied with a terry cloth.
to back this story up a little bit last weekend i'd already wetsanded these with 400 grit wetsand paper lightly and used a low speed buffing wheel and some mother's mag polish and it came out decent, but not good enough.
after giving the passenger's side light 10 minutes or so worth of rubbin and lovin i came out with a pretty decent shine to the main lenses. the 3m bottle was about $13 but also works on clearcoats for your cars paint so it served a dual purpose for me. while cleaning i noticed that it worked well at removing most of the minor scratches and all the swirlmarks i'd made with the sandpaper
then i simply plopped in one of the silverstar bulbs to checkout my progress and was blown away. following are some pics. oh and before you ask, the car is w/o a transmission right now so there's no way to get any outside pics yet and that's why the lights are aimed about 10 feet in the air.
here's a picture from head on showing the difference in color between sylvania's cool blue's and the new silver star's. unfortunately my digital camera despise the dark w/o a flash.
this next picture shows just how bright the lights really are and how much less yellow they'll shine as compared to even sylvania's cool blue bulbs (which i was very dissapointed in). you can really see the difference between the dull driver's side and bright passenger, and i guarantee you its not just the objects they're reflecting off of.
here's the bulbs teamed up with my pilot foglights which my friends refer to as "the stadium lights" since i can often kill my high beams and these bastards actually outshine even my high beams.
coolest part though was that when i bought mine from autozone i got a $10 rebate for them.

Looks good Mavisky. You have a good talent for doing your own work. I could learn a lot from you. I am considering getting some H.I.D. Conversion kit from Ebay for about $350-$370. I have Eurolite Hyper white bulbs now that look like your Sylvania's. Anyway good minor mod and excellent results as usual from you.
