I don't like the back end of any of the 4th gens, but the rest of the cars look sweet. Same goes for the Spyder, it's the same body just without the roof.

How does that side window work? It seems to be integrated into the door and body.

I think it probably drops down into the rear pannel, behind the door.

But then is it a second window? That seems like it would create problems, but if it isn't how do you open the door?

I think it looks pretty good slammed to the ground. But, besides that.. I'm not too impressed. Maybe they'll make a turbo kit and a good sounding exhaust for it. Or, somebody will experiment with making it AWD... =D

Anybody with a 4g want to try and frankenstein their car into the ralliart edition? I'm sure if ralliart did it, somebody else can do the conversion. It looked BADASS with that kit.

i second that, i dont know what they where thinking when they got rid of turbo and awd:notgood:

I agree to, but why would they make two of the same cars, with diffrent bodys? I know for a fact, EVERYONE in this site would buy a evo8 or 9 over the new eclipse if it had the same motor and awd. Unless your really hate 4 doors. But its still WAY lighter, like 400 pounds.

I don't know where this guy went to bussiness school, but this isn't really the smartest ideology for a company to follow. Look at the success companies have had offering variations of the same platform.

GM with the Camaro/Firebird for decades and the Sunfire/Cavi. Honda with the Integra and Civic. Nissan is doing it with the 350Z/Infiniti/Skyline(non-GTR). Every car company does it because it allows for them to reach/appeal to a wider target market without the cost of developing another platform altogether.

Hell, Mitsubishi did it themselves with, that's right, you guessed it, the EVO and ECLIPSE!

And for the record, I don't want a fast four-door. Four is almost three too many.

V6's suck. Power=Alot of gas I-4 are good. Power= Less Gas
I hate when people make this argument. Look into BSFC and then try and make the same argument.

In my opinion, anyone who buys one of the new Eclipses is making a HUGE mistake by overlooking the 350Z. More power, better gas mileage, and RWD. They both look funny. :D

Manufacturers don't do platform sharing because it could be successful. They do it because it's just cheaper to run a car company that way.

Mitsubishi is still doing it with the Eclipse/Galant/Endeavor. Considering that the new Eclipse does not share many parts with the Lancer/Evo, it wouldn't be cost effective to try to put a 4G63 in that engine, even if RRE was able to do it successfully (I'm sure that was a lot of fabrication that needed to be done to make it work, and probably more that what the bean counters could stomach if they tried to bring it to the assembly line). If anything, since it shares the same platform as the endeavor, it's much cheaper for them to make it AWD than to put in a turbo-four banger.

(And why do I get this feeling that we're beating a dead horse?)

Back to the original topic: I think this looks better than the 2G Spyder OMG

You are correct about the cost, but you misinterpreted what I said and said the same thing at the same time. Manufacturers share platforms in order to cost effectively appeal to larger segments of the market.

The new Eclipse still runs a version of the G-series engine (4G64), the engine and trans from an evo drops right in (4G engine) and the drivetrain from the AWD endevor is available attatched to the 4 cylinder. In essence, a 2.4 4G63T AWD Eclipse is possible using all oem parts with modification to fit the drivetrain. Look into how Ralliart did it and you will find all the answers to revive the horse.

I was looking at the door handles and noticed that the cheesy metal lock on the door was missing on the Eclipse. It's one of the 'features' that I really can't stand to see on newer cars. I thought we were past that and I really only see them on old trucks. Maybe it's just for the pic or maybe Mitsu realized how crappy they look. Doubt it.
