Here i am out in my garage workin on my ride... (95 eclipse gs)
Just some background... I sold my 99 vette and bought this car. People often ask my why, but I cannot explain how much I LOVE THESE CARS!!
Anyway, after ALL of my research, I pickd the gs model, simply because the weight savings is nearly 480 pounds. Plus, why plop the money into a car with a stock turbo, if you end up replacing all of it anyway?
BTW: im 27, work in chicago: im a network engineer.
Like I was saying, I have been working on my brakes: I bought Brembo cross drilled, ssb, and bright blue calipers. Front and rear. This guy that visits myneighbor across the street drives a 98 or 99 eclipse gst. He came out of the house wentover to his car, and hollared out "what are you doing?" I yelled out that I was doing my brake conversion. He hollared out, "Is that a GS?" I said yes, and he got into his car, and took off, revving his turbo all the way down my road. (Frankly I didnt like that, since this is my house, and MY street.)
Anyway, I was telling my buddy thats helping me out how messed up that was. Wouldnt it make sense that the guy would come over, check it out, talk with me, instead of being a dick?
He doesnt know that in two months time, my engine will be done, my suspesion, interior, and my 20g with fmic.
IM SOOOO PISSED OFF!!
Is there really this much problem with gst drivers? If I still had my vette, I will bet that he would have kept his mouth shut!
What is wrong with people??

Us turbo guys think we saved some money by getting GS-T/GSX, as in its easier to get more hp out of our cars baseline. I do hear what your saying about the wieght and the turbo, for I got the turbo becuase i could never save 3,200$ to get the kit from hahnracecraft. I can however save upto 500$ fairly easily. thats why I got the TSI AWD. As for what is wrong with people. I'm asking you what the F@Ck. Getting rid of your Vette! OMG Although after all that work on the Gs you might be able to spank a vette or two.
As for the guy with the turbo, some people suck.
Life sucks;then you die.

People have been saying WHY GET RID OF THE VETTE??
Well,
I wanted to upgrade the vette too....
With a 750 a MONTH car payment, I fig. A vette IS NOT the car to learn on!!
I got the gs as a secondary car, for winter time <Chicago :(>
Turns out the parts cost 3 times less for the Gs...
So, with that in mind... I save about 750 a month that I have been throwing at the eclipse..

hey your from chicago? well i am also too...yah man..i kno exactly what your talking about...i get it so much when i past a a gst or gsx...they kno i have a non turbo engine.....so what do they do? they rub it into my face..revving up..blow off sounding off and being a dick and takes off on me.....only because i have a RS......wut part of chicago u from..i would like to meet other eclipse owners out there that isnt bein a dick out there..so yah...laters dud3

I have no problem with it, that is the same reason I got a GS, because for 1: the cost, and 2: I'd like to know that it is fast because of what I did to it, not how I bought it. Although, I've pretty much just started modding it. I know exactly what you mean though. Everyone I talk to that has a GST or GSX is all excited when I tell them I have an Eclipse, then I say it's a GS and they are completely uninterested all of a sudden. It's a pain, but my next step is throwing the turbo on there and there is no way I'm taking off the GS badging then.
 
I think the GS is the best sleeper that you can have is you really do have a turbo and intercooler and etc.. mods under the hood. Just let the guy with the GST/GSX rev his engine, wait for the light and let him see your bumper. However the vette is a real nice car but your right it's not exactly the car you want to learn on. Cause you will eventually break something while learning. Keep tuning, and have some fun with the GS.
 
If they didnt make an AWD 2g, I would have bought the 420a nonturbo car. Cheaper insurance and for about $3500-4000 you can have a hahn stage 2 and be pushing 300hp or more. Sure its probly a LITTLE bit more expense to get to 300hp in the 420a than the 4g63, but not alot more. And the insurance would make up for it within a year. My 2 cents.
