This is a little hard to explain but here it goes: I have a full blitz kit on my car. You know how everyone has mesh grills. I was wanting something different. You can buy aftermarket grills for some trucks. I am talking about the kinds that have like small parallel horizontal fins. I was thinking about taking one of those and having it rewelded, cut , and modified to fit in the front opening of the blitz kit. Tell me how you think that would look. Also, Does anyone know what trucks take these grills? Grill would have to be large enough to fit the opening. Sort of like the picture below. I took a pic of an eclipse and a pic of the grill and mated them :) Does anyone know where I can get a grill large enough for such an application?

Thanks,
Lee

Here is a pic of what I am trying to do. I'm not attempting to make it look like a intercooler. I'm trying to find an alternative to a mesh grill.

I've actually seen that done on an eclipse before. If I can find the picture I'll be sure to show you. You could probably have it down at a customs shop, but I would guess it would be pricey.

I actually don't like it. It looks like a fake intercooler almost. And if you have a fmic, that won't protect it b/c there is too much space between the rods. I would rather have mesh b/c it doesn't look like a fake IC, and it will protect from #@%#@%#@%#@% flying into your radiator or fmic and damaging them. I mean, it looks kewl, kinda different, but some people are gonna think it's a fake fmic. and we all know what that leads to.... GETTING FLAMED! I mean, who cares. make yourself happy, but I just don't like the idea of putting something that resembles a performance part of my car.
Vertical grills may look better.

Just because it is a grill that has horizontal parallel lines doesn't make it look like an intercooler in my opinion. I have a SMIC to go on the car when I get the rest of the setup. So protecting my FMIC isn't of a concern to me. I don't think it looks like an intercooler at all. I am not attempting to fabricate a FMIC replica, merely to find a grill that doesn't resemble gutter guard. Does anyone know trucks with a relatively flat large front end that would except a grill like this? I noticed Silverado have some big grills.

2 rules when customizing your car. 1) do what you think looks good 2) don't take negative feed back personally when it is coming from someone with blue flames down the side of their car

it'll be turbo soon enough. and I was kidding about you'll get flamed. I did say, do your own thing. I think it KINDA looks like an IC, but sure. Diss my car. That's great.
btw, seen edit? All I have seen is double posting like mad. :D

If you didn't notice I have recieved different feedback on different sites. I can really survive without your infinite wisdom on my matters. Also, who the hell says I'm double posting? More like quadruple posting... I guess you haven't excreted you opinion all over those sites yet. Please I can do without your opinion on how I should post. I am posting for myself and others inorder to share an idea that I am trying to fabricate. Besides what gives you the right to criticize me? I'm wanting to customize a grill, at least I am not sticking flames down the side of my car. Oops, I double posted this message too. Back to the subject: Can I get some more opinions and ideas on this. The price is my new problem. Any stock grills athat resemble the billets on some newer trucks that anyone knows of? :)

i think layton141 is right and should be able to post the same question on different forums without getting dissed for it until he gets the feedback he is looking for. 9d9 mitsu rs, he simply asked for peoples opinion on how it would look and not if he would get flamed for asking about it, even though you say that you were just joking about that part. that is the main reason that we have this site to come to, to ask questions about things and learn from other peoples experiences doing different stuff, and just be able to relate with other dsm owners. i think that it looks good and ads to the apperance. so what if it kinda looks like an fmic. i'm sure he knows that its not and i don't think that he is going to go and get a bov sound speaker and mount that in his engine bay and try to pass it off as a turbo dsm. and if anyone gets the urge to just bash people, go to a honda forum and wait for someone to talk some crap about dsm's that is just off the wall and throw out the b.s. flag on them. just make sure that you know what you are talking about when you do so that you don't give the rest of us a bad rep. of not knowing anything about our own cars. some of them know more about our cars than you think they do, and some just don't have a clue what they are talking about. take care and keep it friendly:)

I'm saying. opinions on how it looks, someone would probably think he was trying to imitate a FMIC. that's what I meant. people love to start up flame wars. Maybe they only do it towards me. I'll stop posting. Every forum I go to, I get over run by some guy who doesn't like my opinion, so he bashes my car. If I bash his, I catch hell. No equality anywhere anymore. I have enough #@%#@%#@%#@% everyday in my life. I liek to try and talk cars to get away from it, but all anyone wants to do is bash my car constantly to the point where my opinions aren't even taken seriously b/c someone is always dissing my car. I mean, they are discussion forums, I should be able to say I think people will think it's a fake FMIC if I think it looks that way. no offense directed at him. He had no right to diss my car over me stating my opinion on what the grill looked like and what I thought would become of it. But, of course, it's overlooked b/c I disagree with the majority on how it looks. I should be able to state my opinion freely, as long as I am not bashing anyone's car, without worry of anyone bashing me for it. :dsm:

How true. Never throw stones when you live in a glass house (or something like that).

I have actually found two really good ideas one from this forum and one from 2GNT.com. Despite all of the current conflict, I think 9D9 MITSU RS has a good idea with the vertical grills. It will have teh same effect on appearance that I am looking for and then people will not try to think I am imitating an intercooler. Also, the idea of just getting a Front Mount Cold Air Intake. It will fill the gap and give me an alternative to a mech grill. But of course there is a huge problem with this too. I have found no place that makes these for an eclipse. I have seen several made by R-1 Racing for Hondas. You think it would be too hard to "modify" the piping and adapt it on an eclipse? I think the one made for a civic could be tailored easier than the prelude one. Let's keep this forum on the topic please. :) Thank you all for all of the feedback.

Also, referring back to the vertical grill idea. I don't know of any stock or aftermarket grill made with vertical grills. Any ideas?

Damn fellas, 9D9MITSURS is just giving feedback, Layton141 asked for it...that's what the forums are for. Pot calling the kettle black guys, calm down. I think that it would be a unique look and if you like it, go to town!

Tom

From the way I read it Layton141 asked for feedback and 9D9 MITSU RS gave it to him. Its not up to you wether or not you like the feedback but that gives no one any right to flame him for his car and what he likes. So everyone please step off their throne and chill..

Also, those front mount intakes, I hear nothing but bad things about water ingestion and hydrolock. Your best bet would be some vertical grills or whatever YOU like and an AEM cold air intake. I have the aem without the bypass valve and I drive in the rain a lot. It won't suck up water unless it's pretty much completely submerged at full throttle, but the front mount one can take a big splash from a car in front of you, and that'll be the end of your motor. Personally, I'd go with vertical grills and an aem intake. But, it's not my car.
