let me tell where i lie as of right now... visit my site to see pictures.... 91 eclipse gs great condition only 75 thousand miles on it ... with the summer coming up i intend on getting a paint job... but would also like a body kit (drift) my friend wants me to turbo it and as well do i but he tells me it will only cost me about a grand to put a whole new turbo engine in it... i did my entire interior myself and im still working on it... i want to get a sound system, body kit, wheels, fenders, let me know any ideas and stuff

whoa whoa calm down there son, i take it you either a) just got the car, b) just got your license, or c) just got both. you need to take a deep breathe and relax. now, no one can answer those questions for you, you have to answer your own questions there. if you want a turbo car, turboing a N/T is not the way to go. considering there are thousands of cheap 1gs out there both AWD and FWD turbos, you should have gotten a turbo one from the get-go. now like me, when i was 16 and first got my car i was just happy to get anything and didnt push to get a turbo (that and finding a 2gb AWD 5spd with low miles is not that easy) and made the "mistake" of getting 2g n/t. not that i dont love my car, but i wish i wouldve waited and gotten a turbo. since i didnt i decided to go with more of a show car and currently i have ZERO dollars put into my engine. (Why waste money on an intake, exhust, headers, etc etc when it does NOTHING (nothing of REAL use) to my 420a) so now you can go a few different directions, if your heart is set on going fast, i recomend getting rid of your N/T and getting a turbo, however, if you want more of a show car - putting a kit on, flares, wings, vents and scoops and god knows what else, then your "go fast parts" are going to be non-exsistand due to the fact that body work is NOT cheap (when done correctly) if you wish to have a car that is both fast and showy, then expect to put thousands of dollars into your car, and even more if you want to make your N/T fast.

you need to figure out what YOU really want, and not what everyone else tells you to get. you WILL NOT be able to swap motors into your car (you could, but it would cost more then you would ever imagine and is HIGHLY unpractical) also, you will NOT be able to turbo your car for less than a grand. turbo parts alone will run prob 1500-2000, plus install and tuning. YOU are the one that must decide what YOU want to do with YOUR car. not us.

I agree with everything else said in the first paragraph, however this last part i'd like to mention my own experiance with turboing my NT. assuming your 2.0 to start with (from the GS you mentioned) i picked up a totaled turbo car for under a grand. Now, assuming you can do the motor / harness / ECU / tranny swap yourself, you have everything from that parts car you need. of course you may need a few other small things (fuel pump, larger exhaust, etc) but you can definetely do a turbo swap from a 2.0NT to a turbo for around $1500 or less. And if you really want to go cheap and not get a new Walbro 255 fuel pump and better exhaust, you can even swap the one off the parts car assuming it's all in decent condition. just make sure the motor/tranny are good, cuz you're swapping the whole thing

you just need to hunt for the proper car and look for the deals. i've got under $1200 into my turbo swap to get the car running, including a new fuel pump. good luck with your turbo swap, i say go for it if you have the skills!

if you are doing the swap yourself, and have a great doner car, you can do what devlish said. however most people are not capable of swapping an entire motor/trans and all the other shit that would need to be done by themsevles. and was that the first thing you did to your car devlish? prob not. you prob had body work and other thigns done to your car and then turboed it. i could be wrong, but that is wha tim assuming. in all honestly, there is no point in taking a STOCK n/t 1g and then turboing it. why not just get a 1g turbo in the first place? now, if you ahve some serious cash sunk into your n/t already and then want to turbo it, that is a different story all together.

I would have to agree with this. I actually paid less for a running 93 tsi awd 5 speed then i paid for my 93 talon dl (1.8 liter). and the tsi only needed a few parts to run correctly

why?? insurance rates. and your right, it was NOT my first mod, not by far. actually took me like 5yrs or so to finally do it ($ reasons) but after selling my AWD cuz it kept breaking and my Ins was higher, i decided to finally do it. all i was saying is that it can be done fairly easily and for under $1500.

and spare me the lectures on why my insurance company will not cover me (or drop me) should i get into an accident. it is considered an aftermarket add-on in this case (or performance engine swap). I WILL still be covered, but only for a NT car, not a turbo car, unless i get a seperate rider on my policy to cover it. which i have chosen NOT to do on a 12yr old car.

as for originalposer27, start with rims, tint, audio/video. that can all be moved to your next car minus the tint, should you decide against the old car next year. however, if you're dead set on dropping a ton of cash into an old car, then by all means go for the paintjob & body kit too. hell, i did! and it turned out OK by me

guess you just have to find the right insurance....

as far as cost to do it, if you can find a cheap messed up turbo car your pretty much set as far as parts you need....

sorry, but wrong. the 4g63 and 420a are NOT interchangable if anyway. even if you do get the stock turbo off a wrecked turbo car, and perhaps the SMIC, and some other odds and ends, you still need a shitload of parts and then have custom manifolds made up etc etc, and then install and tuning, it would be cheaper to buy a new turbo kit then try and get parts out of ajunkyard.

except that he said he drives a 91 N/T, so he would not have a 420a anyways.

so in his case, it really isn't that big of a deal for the 1G NT's. As long as its NOT a 1.8L to start with, that's when it's not a good option.
