I just got my hands on a spray gun the other day and I was going to be painting a door. What I was wondering is if there are any good links that anybody has on painting with a gun. Like cleaning the gun, adjusting the spray gun etc. I can just go to Google and search (which I have done) but if anybody here does a lot of painting any help would be great! thanks! :thumb:

is it an mlvp gun?

I'm not exactly sure what Mlvp means. It is a conventional gun (non gravity feed) made by Sharpe. I really don't know how do use any of the adjustments on the gun but I am sure I could figure out. I guess my main question is is how big should the compressor be? My neighbor has a fairly small compressor which I'm sure I could use but I'm not sure if it would be large enough.

the compressor just has to push out 45psi or so. if its a weak compressor youll just have to wait for it to fill up a lot.

i really have to suggest going and buying a hvlp gravity feed gun. i got a siphon feed husky from home depot, that hting is the biggest pile of shit ever. bought a good gravity hvlp and the difference is night and day.

yeah husky LOL cute dogs LOL. oks erious i have the husky compressor it can push out up to120 psi but my reserve tanks is so small it goes away easy. so i recomend a tank that can hold at least 5 gallons. that should do you fine. and thanks i have the hlvp too and god it gold very esy to use. but to paint a whole car i recomend 65 psi at constant. and be evenly about painting a part. and stay away a good 1 foot away the panel ur painting.

Ok thanks a lot guys that helps a lot. How much do you think a decent gravity feed gun would cost? Something Home depot has by chance? OMG I was looking at them at Sturdavents the otherday and they have some that are very nice.

And just a estimate, how much do you think paint (along with all reducers, clear etc) would cost for just enough to paint a hood for example?

Thanks!! Also it sounds like the compressor my neighbor has should work fine, I might take a look at a few more guns though before I start painting the door.

if you have a harbor freight near you check it out.
Otherwise go to harbor freight.com
The pro guns are like hundreds of dollars
These are like $60 I love mine, and I think more than good enough for most any project
The one I have has an aluminized purple handle and the hopper is directly above the gun
Works with gellcoat for fiberglass too

look on ebay for hvlp guns.

as for the paint, i guess 50-100 bucks. a couple pints will do your hood no problem.
