Does anyone have a fiberglass/carbonfiber hood from franks fiberglass?

How is the quality? I hear the weight is less then most other brands?

How much did u pay with shipping? The prices look good, but no shipping included on it?

kevin90gsx has one From there I believe, Throw him a PM. I am also looking to purchase one this summer from franks.

I work with Frank everyday so I have a bit of insight on his hoods and composite parts. So I will give you my opinion at least and try to stay impartial.

* These hoods Frank makes DO WEIGH LESS than any others!!! His hoods will tip the scales between 6 to 10 lbs. 10 lbs is also pushing it. The average is 8 lbs. Very light. Only places like "squid-skins" can come close since they are also a "race" orientated fabricator.
* Frank's hoods do NOT have a fiberglass skeleton. Instead they have composite foam core ribs for a sub-structure and also core matt. This makes the hood VERY RIGID and saves major weight.
* You will need hood pins. Period!

The hoods look awesome. They do have a gloss shine but it is not a quarter inch thick coat of gel!! (uneccessary) The shine is excellent though. If you really wanted to you can always have a body shop hit it with an extra coat of clear. But there is really no need. This is not your typical "commercial" carbon fiber hood. These hoods are made with racing and weight savings in mind. So not only will you get the cool carbon fiber you'd like but you also get the extra effort taken to make a lite weight hood meant for performance.
Would I have one on my car? Absolutely, but before I met Frank I had just purchased a new c/f hood elsewhere! Well when this one gets all crappy I will then get one from Frank!

since u know him, how bout getting him to knock a little off the price for me and i will buy one. Hook it up for a dsm'r

Friendship and business are separate things with Frank. He is all about the money and ya' get what ya' pay for. Hell, I think he is only knocking like $25 bucks off when I get my hood...so I am not asking him. Sorry.;)

You'll definatly need hoodpins, maybe a couple pairs even. These hoods are light enough as when you hit one that has become airborn at 65mph it will hardly damange your pop up headlight

flew off a friends car that had hood pins and a correctly working latch... then i managed to hit it. can't really see c.f. when its dark out :( tweeked the light a bit but i managed to straighten it. guess it was just a freak accident

The shipping shouldnt be much , considering it weights less than 10 lbs and its not even an inch thick. If you want to determine shipping measure your hood lenght x width and 1 inch thick. I dont think tghe boxes is need to be any thicker , and go to fedex website they are cheaper tghan ups.
can you ploease post a link to the site your arer talking about , i searched and couldnt find anything . Iwanna c heck these hoods out .
thanks.

um, the box would for your sake hopefully be thicker. from past experience, insure the hell out of it and check it upon delivery, don't let the driver leave. past experience, fex ex dropped my $900 tonneau cover and cracked a corner off

Yeh, no $hit. They ARE careless as hell, so do get insurance!!!! Frank will in no way send you a screwed up hood, so check for shipping damages.
On another note, the shipping carrier that he was using was messing up parts so bad that he no longer uses the same company. He shipped out some AMX parts for some pro domestic racer and the parts were pristine when they went out....upon destination there might as well have been a crazy gnome in the box! You thin those driers care what they hell is in the box? Ok.

damn, I wish I had known Frank was gonna raise the prices on the hoods (90-91 at least). Maybe I'm just halucinating, but didn't they used to be $350?

$350 is for the "pin on" only hood (4 hood pins), the higher price is for the hood with hinge points fabricated into it.

Yeah, I saw that. Back in the day (sometime last year) when I had gotten a quote for the hood with the hinge points it was $350+shipping.
thanks.

Yes. When? Also consider making a cover that's made for us 6-bolted 2G guys please!

Well, I've seen some people modify the Predator hoods to fit the turbo'd 2g's (by shaving off the hood frame/support underneath). I just think it would give the car a lot smoother and cleaner look with a flat hood. Just a thought.
