That's exactly what I thought until about 3 months ago. I was surfing Ebay and came across a JDM resseller that had a 1.8L listed. And it was turbocharged. It had numerous pics showing it and it totally resembled a 1.8 in every respect but it had a turbo and was also identified on the intake with "turbo". Marked in the same manner as a JDM cyclone engine is. It was cast in the intake.

Maybe it was non-factory? I've tried to relocate it, but have not been successful. There is still some JDM parts that we are still today discovering. The 1.8L has and will always be highly overlooked. Could be one and we've been missing it?

All I can say is I saw the pics. And it looked factory.

I reiterate. There is no such thing as a JDM turbo 4G37. Because you did not post a link, I can only speculate, but from what others have told me, what you were looking at is probably a JDM 4G62BT (Cordia), which is a completely different engine and has more in common with a 4G63 than a 4G37.

The 4G37 is a revision of the G37B, which has no turbocharged relatives other than the 4G32/G32B colt, with which it shares the same stroke, bore spacing and runner spacing.

I realize how skeptical you all may be with no link to post. This was about 3 months ago that I saw this and I thought I had saved the link to the ebay listing but I didn't.

I do realize your depth of knowledge in the 1.8 area, and may very well be right. But the engine in the link you posted looks nothing like the one I saw. Like I said, it was being sold as a JDM Mits 1.8L turbo. It resembled a early 90's 1.8 but had Turbo cast in the manifold and had a turbo charger on it. And it could very well be an aftermarket

If I ever stumble across it again I'll be sure to pass the link on to you.

Kalani, you are the man. I was so sick of getting flamed for owning a 1.8L Eclipse. I checked out your sticky on the dsmtalk forum and I plan on sourcing the parts for the swap as soon as this -30* weather let's up. I need to get some wrench time in without getting hypothermia... Thanks man, hopefully us guys with the 1.8L will start getting some respect instead of being bashed on. Don't expect to be the only 1.8L turbo for much longer!

im with u, if it dosent have a turbo give it one!! but on the for real side, if your building a 4g37 to race ur nuts, you would have to see the dsm selection in hawaii to understand the mentality of fully building a 1.8, turbo it to make it faster, not to be a race car, i will have pics of my 1.8L turbo setup on here vry soon, it was a cake build, im still trying to find out what the best FMU is and if i need to change the capasitors in the computer, this is going to be a show car for a very very good friend of mine, he does custom paintjobs and he got ass ended in his fully tricked out 87 ford thunderbird w/ 5.0 v8, now hes feeling up to the times so we are building him a rice car for show, and there is nothing more origional that a turbo 1.8L, and i like the thought of a dsm with a reliable turbo motor, i wish the best of luck to all of you:thumb: turbo away

Here's what I was referring to:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6755&item=2489737148&rd=1

It's a JDM 1.8L 4G93T. As you can see, it has an intake similiar to the 4G37, yet has a DOHC head. When I stated there was a turbo version, my thought that there was a 1.8L turbo, not specifically a 4G37T. Anyhow, just thought I'd post it as I came across it again today.

check out my gallery, i just posted pics of the lancer :thumb: 4g93 :D real screamer of a motor!! but dont try and buy anything accept an air filter and greddy exhaust for one!!
