ok, since im gettin a bunch of money back this year on tax return, i decided to go on the wonderful journey of turboing my 420A. know the only dilemma i am facing at the moment is the decision on whether or not to also purchase a engine rebuild kit since im at bout 86k miles. was wondering wut every1 else's opinion would be in my shoes? thanks :dsm:

save your headaches... get a rebuild kit at the same time.
took the words out of my mouth!

We should make a sticky saying "If you think your turbo 420A engine will last under boost without forged internals, your wrong"

i know i need the forged internals, but at the beginning im only gonna run bout 5 psi of boost until i get the rest done

Get a stock turbo...think of how much money your ganna be dumping into it for the kit and the rebuild, and think of what u could do with that with a stock turbo eclipse, you could sell your car, buy a stock one, and hook it up to be faster than a rebuilt 420a and still have money to spare, and u could sell it in the future since those cars were meant to be turbo...:::truth:::

I'm just butthurt right now going through my rebuilt, LOL, but with w/e u do gl :thumb: I'm just keepin it real, and I'm a fellow turbo 420a owner, thats around a bunch of 4g63t's :( .

First of all learn how to spell (ganna, w/e u do gl ???)

Second, your wrong

Third, explain your "money to spare" theory and think of all the crap that you have to replace on a 4G63 to get it to the same level as a built/turbo 420a

This has already been discussed a thousand times :thumbdown :thumbdown

Ah well...here's my situation...

The car itself is prob much cheaper than a stock turbo eclipse. Mine cost me about 6k with the registration and taxes and all, 97 GS eclipse. Now for the prices...

Turbokit cost about 3-4k including installation and misc parts like replacing that black box the star turbokit came with, and including buying the proper gauges, and you'd want a turbo timer, things like that.

Then there's the rebuilt if u want more boost. The rebuilt for me is costing shitloads, but lets say with the parts, and if u have connections to hook it up, would u say a fair price is 4 grand for the full rebuilt with forged internals, and clutch since that won't last long under a good ammount of boost.

Then there's the fuel system, your ganna need a good one since our cars don't take good to things like S-AFC, I went with the portfueler, bout a 1,000 bux (wish I went with the megasquirt or a standalone now though).

Now with all this in mind, it's still a 420a, it's hard to break the 400hp barrier for example. You can only have so much power.

Now you got my friends, the 4g63 guys, some awd too so they got the traction from the get go. These cars can handle 20psi all day with the right fuel mods, and not too much is needed. They already come stock with almost as much power as spending 4 grand on a turbokit for us. I mean yeah our turbo may be bigger but we can't use the power till we rebuilt. Imagine how much u can put into the engine with the money u use to rebuilt alone. These cars can handle boost.

Basically my point is your putting 4 grand into your car just to keep up with a stock 4g63, cause your 8psi isn't that fast at all believe it or not. By the time you rebuilt to be able to do something they're engines and internals could have done without a rebuilt, they'd be waaay ahead of u in hp, and u can only go so far with your 420a while there are so many 4g63's that have easily gotten into the low 13's high 12's. And there's actually a pretty damn good ammount in the 11's and 10's, whew man, but yeah that would def. cost u but it's not as easy as say Hahn racecraft makes it out to be, and he uses nitrous.

The bottom line is it's known that the 420a will eventually go with boost, your looking to dump atleast 7 grand into your car to make it turbo ready (including the turbo kit), and then you'd be stuck with it because after all that money who'd wanna sell they're car. I'm sure almost everyone has thought during they're rebuilt, damn what if i started with a stock turbo eclipse. This is what I've been thinking for a while now, so like I said i'm just butthurt, LOL. But I've seen this lecture before I went turbo and I thought i'd be satisfied with the hp the turbokit will give me (8psi is NOT much guys, that 250hp figure is damn optimistic).

So before you dump so much into your engine I'm just warning em to think things through, but this kinda lecture never helped me, like u said, it's been around, and I'm sure he's gonna or "going to" still turbo cause he believes in the end it'll all cost the same anyway. But damn just to get something to tune our fuel with is a pain the ass and requires costum work. So like I said best of luck to you, i'm actually excited about my car right now i'm just butthurt, LOL, but I just wanted to give em a fair warning, there is another option out there...

Im going to say something very poetic here.....

You're just dumb, shut up. Build the 420a.

How much whp are you at and how much did it cost u to get there? This is kinda ironic since I am building my 420a right now...

Its a lot of money and I am also in the process but I also have my engine build so I can run quite a bit more boost should actually be done by next week if you search for post from me(Almost there) I think it's called you'll find some pics of my installation process. Dont now how to post a thread! But am sure its all going to be worth it!! :D
