i'm purchasing a '92 eclipse gs. i would love to turbo it. i have a '90 donor gsx i can get any part from for like 300 bucks. i would like to make 8-12 pounds of boost. i would like it to be as safe as possible. i have been reading non stop for the last week about all the n/t to turbo swaps.. and most give a lot of the info.. i need an opinion now:

option 1.

turbo (intercooler, bov, piping, no knock censor, similiar to a honda setup)
fmu
STOCK n/t ecu
water injection kit

this is similar to a turbo'd honda setup. where i can push boost safely (with water inj.) and not have to worry too much about knock censor getting in the way as far as timing. this offers an advantage that way, and with water injection i should have a relatively good safeguard against knock, but if i start knocking, i won't know, and i could #### something up. also i ahve the fmu to push more fuel, similar to a honda setup. this is also the cheaper option. this is more like taking an n/t car and turboing, and not converting to an upgraded model (ie gst).

option 2.

turbo (ic, knock censor, bov)
450 injectors
turbo ecu
afc
datalogger

this is pretty much a conversion n/t to turbo. (i know.. i left some parts out.. i am aware... typing bugs) afterwards, i will pretty much have a gst.. save for the quality of the block. i prefer option 1. i know that knock censor helps me out, and can keep my engine safe. at the same time, i have seen the speed decrease on my buddy's gsx just becuase he is driving with 1/4 quart too little on oil. i want to avoid that. i want more of a steady performance. the water injection should give me enough of a cushion to run 8 pounds of boost safely.

i want to know if you guys think i can get away with option 1, or if a full swap is the safest.. i'm looking for safest here. i would like to push about 8 pounds, and 12 when in a race/f*cking with some ricer.

be honest.. but don't be mean.. please

Option 3: Drop in the turbo long block and use your n/t flywheel with an ACT clutch kit to hold the boost. Use turbo ECU and play around with an SAFC.

typically, a gsx doesn't have as much free way potential and top end. i want to go fast on the freeway. i want the two wheel drive.

If i were you i would do the more time consuming and more costly because in the end you will be A LOT safer and if you got better pistons down the road you could run A LOT more boost then those N/T pistons. If you have a donor car with the ECU and knock sensor and everything then their shouldnt be a question at all. Swap everything! Do the conversion the right way the first time and you will be happy :thumb:
